Some Questions About Z4 Ownership!

In all seriousness, I was just looking up removing smoke odour and I hadn't even thought about it getting as far as air vents. Seems to be WAYYYYY too much hassle and with no guarantee of ever removing it :/
Might be a stretch, but have you ever watched the sitcom Seinfeld? There was an episode where Jerry had his car driven by a valet and when he got it back it smelled of body odor. Jerry eventually gave the car away because the smell could not be eradicated. IIRC it was a BMW 5 Series...

I'm voting for moving on to a different car, unless you want to take up smoking that is! You'll find a better one. I'm keeping an eye out for a mate at the mo and although he's lower down the scale price-wise, there are always a few around. Travelling may be necessary but, for the right car, you won't regret it.

I think you guys are right, I'll forget about this one, unless I sell my car and it's still available at a discounted rate, then I might reconsider and just power wash the interior :P

What are people's thoughts on the facelift n52 2.5i (177)? I've found a nice one near where I'll be in a few days time which I might go and take a look at, though I find it highly frustrating that they made this and a 218hp version -.-

According to the spec though, it's only .2 sec slower to 60 than the older m54...

If I was going for a 2.5si instead of a 3litre car I'd want the most powerful version available to avoid feeling short changed! The lower powered one is more than likely a very nice car but I doubt very much that it will be as much fun to drive as the 'full fat" version.
Just my opinion of course.

Personally i would steer away from the 2.0l as that particular engine isn't going to go down as a BMW great, search things like 318 timing chain issues, vanos, oil leaks etc theres plenty to go at. The 6 cylinders are generally a lot more reliable but are heavier on fuel by a good 6-7 mpg around town. However a 3.0l is very similar in fuel economy to a 2.5l and with the cars taking the mileage well i would personally opt for say a 100-120k 3.0l over a 2.5l for similar money. Vanos is a relatively easy fix on M54 engine as there are a few after market seal kits on the market so dont let that put you off. the 2.0l N42 is a different kettle of fish in this respect.
With over half the E85 zeds on the road being 2.0l its a cheap way to buy one but you may well ending up spending the difference on the engine. However as we all know any car is a risk, its just that some are riskier than others

Thanks for your input :) I've pretty much ruled out the 2.0 now, purely because they don't seem as well specced and they seem to have a similar price-mileage ratio as the 2.5s, albeit, slightly newer which I'm not that bothered about anyway.

As for the 3.0, as I said earlier, I had pretty much ruled them out because of the higher price they command, but if I find one close then by all means, but I don't think I'll be going out of my way for one, as at the moment, I don't really have time to travel around looking for cars :(

I'm eyeing up a perfect 2.5 I've seen locally, the seats, options, wheels and colour I want! So I'll be looking at that one Tuesday then it's fingers crossed really!

I originally wanted the 2.5 but couldn't find one with right spec. Ended up with a 3.0si.
I use mine as a daily drive and love it. My mate has a z4 as well and had his roof slashed, it was parked near a station in Brighton so it does happen. Luckily it only damaged the outer layer.

As with all second hand cars if it doesn't feel right walk away, there will always be another.
Good luck with the search (and with fixing your car)

This thread has just answered so many questions that I also had about buying a Z4 so thanks! I'm in a similar situation to you @propaintballa, just waiting for the right car to come up for sale :)

Glad it was a help! I found my perfect car and someone beat me to it the Monday after Christmas. I left utterly heart broken so I have suspended my search :( What will you be looking for? hope you have better luck!

Ah I bet that was annoying!

Thanks. I'm after a 2.5/3.0L, 2003-05 roughly and in either silver or light grey. Under 100,000 miles would be great too

Well I'd say you're in luck, there seem to be thousands of silver ones kicking around!
