Some Help needed.. pretty please?!

Hello.. this will come off as a bit of a noob post, but i guess having picked up my first Z4 yesterday (57 reg 3.0si - which i still need to take some pics of!) i am a one

I have a couple of problems... some of which doing a search on this forum has yielded some answers....

1) My car has Bluetooth but i dont know the pin code, despite going through the hundreds of booklets and receipts the dealer left me (an independent Mazda dealer). So found out i can pull the boot carpet back and read it off the ULF module, however does anyone know if i can source those carpet clips from anywhere outside of a dealer? - as i anticipate i may break quite a few

2) I have xenons headlights, but one side is fogging up near the indicator - i presume i can remove the bulbs and blast it with a hair dryer to fix it, however pretty sure it will reoccur - would this be covered by the manufacters warranty - which the car still has over 1 yrs left? Also is it worth replacing the angel eye bulb with some brighter LED ones, as they are pretty dim?

3) And finally i think my glovebox is broken - when i open it sometimes it just drops out (but hangs by the front plastic piston thing) - the back clip which goes over the hinge is a half moon shape - should this be a full circle? (to surround the hinge) So in order to close it i need to push the back of it up when i tilt the front forward to lock it - however i fear this is probably not making any sense! - so i'll try removing it and getting pictures!

Thanks in advance!

The glovebox handle falling apart has been discussed on here before, and if yours is the same problem, it's a very easy fix. Look in the problems page for a post I made yesterday telling how it can be fixed.

Hi and welcome

The clips in the boot are pretty sturdy and from memory unscrew so dont think you will break them.

The headlight will be covered under warranty, but you may have to battle a little as they can sometimes say "they all do that sir"

Not sure if the problem with the glovebo is the usual one as I think that is normally to do with the catch.

Hi and welcome :D

with the headlight you may just need a new back cover with a new seal - they can get crimped and the seal breaks. There is a post recently that shows what can happen :D

Looks like we're picking off ther responses individually here. Let me add that having fitted the ULF in mine I've had the carpet out a few times. Teh clips that go into metal are ribbed so a wide bladed screwdriver from side to wide will wriggle them out. Those in carpet to carpet have a front and rear half that screw together. REache behind to stop it rear spinning and undo.

As an aside if you call the dealer they will tell you the ULF pin number.

Thanks guys.

Just tried to remove the boot carpet to look at the ULF, dropped the backing of one clip in the battery compartment - which i cant get to without removing the battery now, and then couldnt unbold the bracket using my parents limited tools! So i'll find a local BMW dealer and give them a call - and if they try charge me will have another proper attempted at it (using the bimmernav guide)

My glovebox which i think is broken isnt the lock its the hinge at the back just ran out and took some pics:

The hinge in question:

which hooks to this:

Does this look right?

And while i was at it took a pic of my interior!

Nice interior!

No, your glovebox problem is a different one. It's fooked!! Probably easly fixed if you could find the piece that has broken off, but seeing as you have just bought it, I'd suggest a trip to the dealer and get them to fit a new lid under warrenty

Thanks, i do like the imola and black bi-colour - but the dash is a real dust magnet!

Ahh thought it looked broken, no sign of any plastic... grrr wish i check this before i bought it now!

Will the warranty cover this? i know on my last car (toyota Celica) they refused to cover a broken boot cover latch which i broke overfilling my boot.

There's only one way to find out if it's covered, head to your nearest BMW dealer. Though I feel it shoud be the garage you bought it from who should really be sorting it, seeing as you've only just picked it up!!

Rang my local garage...acting all ignorant about it, and to cut a long storey short they have said it is classed as wear and tear and it not covered.

The supplying garage is in Leeds and i am in London, so its a little awkward to go back to them... but i guess there is no harm in trying, as its a Mazda franchise dealer they may allow me to go to another local one.

But on a plus point i now have my bluetooth code - whats really genius is that the nav screen displays the text messages from my Blackberry to it - my last E46 never did that!

Ok finally one more question - and then i'll try stop pestering everyone!

My car seems to have some anti roll option - so when in first gear and the clutch fully depressed it will not roll back, even on a steep hill... so i need to put into neutral to roll it back, then first to go forward.

Is there anyway to diable this? My parents have a steepish driveway and have gotten used to leaving it in first, rolling back then driving forward! I had a look in the manual and cant find anything on it.

Also finally while at the gym found an opportunity to take my first (very bad) external pic of my car:

It's not possible to disable hill assist, for obvious reasons you shouldnt be in first gear and going backwards although most of us do it at some point

Thanks.. oh well i better learn how to drive properly from now on :?

Interesting that the screen displays texts. I've not heard of a Blackberry doing that before. I have a couple of different ULF's in and several Blackberries and they've never done that

I have the blackberry curve - which is due for replacement but took so damn long to work out how to pair it up and am almost hesitant to change now!...i could get my ULF model number if that help?

Cant get any voice dialling or any voice commands to work though.

Hi,

the 'hill assist' works for just about 5 seconds, after this it disengages and it's business as usual.

rgds.

Ahh so it does.... but i also found its now quicker to pop it into reverse then wait for it to disengage - its pretty clever - never owned a car with it before - although it was a cost option on my previous Audi A3.

If you touch the brake the hill assist should deactivate and then you will roll back, or move forward slightly and then roll back. Either way you shouldn't really be coasting backwards in a forward gear though :D

If you dont like it, just tap the accelerator, that has the effect of releasing the hill hold assist

After a month of driving i have finally gotten used to the hill assist - and secretly quite like it!

On the Audis this is a premium paid option - nice of them to throw it in for free on the Z4!
