Some Advice; Replacing My 2004 3.0 with Something

I've owned a 2004 3.0 w/Sport package since new. Looking to update, but not digging the new Z4 design so I'm probably going to pick up a used 2007-2008. I'm generally satisfied with how the sport 3.0 drives and rides. I don't aspire for an M, but I've yet to drive an si and am curious. For the extra couple of grand, is it that much better? Has the si proven to be more or less reliable than the regular i? Or even between 2007 and 2008, is one more prone to problems than the other?

I'll apologize now as I assume this has been discussed here a million times, but I've not come up with the right search to find it without 6 million other threads.

Thanks.

There will be no difference between 07/08 generally as the Si Engines were launched as the facelift in mid 2006 :)

Time will prove whether or not they are indeed reliable, and at only 3 years old, thats not really long enough! From peoples posts on here, there are often complaints of engine knock (pre detonation - even with super unleaded, high load, low rpms) and bad hydraulic lifters (tapping noise - covered under warranty).

Everything else should be bolted together at least as well as your '04  So go out and give one a good thrapping and see if you like it :D

Still... give an M a try! I've read a few posts on here where people have been in the dealers and thought, why not just give one a try and then an hour later realised their life would be just that bit emptier without one. Not sure about the US, but over here there are a lot about for less that the 3.0si and typically better spec with less miles. Go on
(I am purposely ignoring running costs :| )

Either way... get out and give one, or both, a good, what was it... thrapping :driving:

Remember that after the facelift, in the US they got a 3.0 with 215 ponies and a 3.0Si with 255 ponies - I would always go for the Si myself.

Wow, I didn't even realize that the base 3.0i took a step backwards in spec. Thanks for that insight!

Peacefield, welcome to the forum...
I would suggest either the 3.0si or take a look at the "M".

Own a 3.0 2004 myself and very happy with it indeed so if i was looking to change i would first choice an M second choice look at a Coupe.
