All fixed now,

Ordered sensor from ebay and replaced by removing bumper. Quite easy to do, disconnecting sensor from bumper a bit fiddly...

I need to do the same as one of mine is playing up, do you respray the sensor or were you lucky enough to find one the right colour.

You shouldn't really spray them as it impairs their function. I beleive factory are treated with a special paint/coat.

I'm sure someone will tell me they have sprayed them and their's works.

These things seem somewhat fragile. Manufacturers originally went to urethane bumpers to minimise damage in very low speed collisions. Turns out they are cheaper and lighter as well.

Then they start mounting fragile, expensive bits to these cheap bumpers. TV antennas, FM antennas, parking sensors. All which are easily broken under the same low speed impact that the bumpers were supposed to protect the car from in the first place. Now when some numpty smacks you in the rear, there's no visible damage, so he drives away. You return to find your entertainment system doesn't work right and you can't park as well any more. :headbang:

Thought I'd register to say thanks to Storm as his detailed post made me feel comfortable with taking off the bumper without destroying the rivets etc. I'd listened to each sensor closely and one was clearly clicking much quieter so I ordered one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120952244332?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Just fitted and the PDC has sprung back into life with those comforting beeps!

Cheers

Can I just check with you where you bought your sensors from?

I have seen on ebay a few but they mention a different connector on some of them?? Wondering if this would do the job?

.... its from Luxembourg though

Spoke to BMW today as my car was in for MOT (it passed) and they wanted £138 just for the sensor and £50 labour!!!!!

Good post. Not sure I'm brave enough to try removing the bumper, as I too have a dicky sensor.

its really easy.. the most difficult bit is getting those plastic grommets out and thats eassy too. I thought the same as you, but just lay something on the ground like a blanket so that you can place it down once disconnected..

Hi, this is my first post here, and I just want to thank you guys cause just followed your instructions and fixed it saving me 164£ from the sensor at bmw plus labor.

My right sensor doesn't click like the others. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to which sensor is compatible for my 2.0 2008 z4?

Head to RealOEM and put the last 7 of your VIN in. Same catalogue the dealers use, drill down and you'll find the part numbers. Mention the forum with Soper BMW in Lincoln and you get free delivery - they're also usually the cheapest.
