Solutions to frozen windows

I just use an old large Fairy Liquid bottle. Fill with warm (not hot!) water every morning and squirt it on the windows. Never had an issue with Zed, but on my old VX the door buttons would freeze and you'd 'need' warm water*. The warming of the windows also prevent it from steaming up when you sit inside.

*When isolated from a warm water (and indeed the de-icer in the boot), owners called this a "Wee Dilemma" which i'm ashamed to say, happened to me once :roll: :P
 
Try licking the window before you try the door handle? :evil:

Another Ex VX220 driver advocating the use of tepid water here.

You may be able to get away with not using a fairy liquid bottle on the Z4, as i would have thought the door handles would still work when frozen unlike the VX. I remember getting funny looks from the neighbours as i squirted water onto the door button, i am sure the really did think i was pissing on it!

However I have been using tepid water for 17 years to defrost my car windows and never had an issue. It only needs to be the slightest bit warm. The only thing you need to watch out for is subsequent freezing as they can go completely white - so use a squeege straight after.

I have only ever heard rumours of cracked glass but then i have seen some adventurous souls pouring kettles over their cars in the past so i am sure if you try hard enough.....
 
In the last couple of days, I've resorted to loudly swearing at them. This usually provides sufficiently to gain entry.....

:lol: I find that "Come on you fucking bastard" works well.
 
Iv got an actual solution to this now after it driving me mental over the last two weeks. What i do now is move the window down a tiny bit, just enough to clear the recess at the top but still high enough to make a seal.
Then just leave it there, the car doesnt try to drop it when you get in and the locks still work fine, mine has been like that for 2 days now and i know it works down to -14 at least.

Resurrection of an old thread as this happened to me this morning & I was mortified!!! Didn't even occur to me that it could possibly happen as I tried to yank my door open and watched the top of the glass bend slightly. I opted for the antifreeze on the lower rubber and then waited 10 minutes before trying again.

Traumatic!
