It is best policy for all to register interest on the post but many including myself may prefer to drop a PM ?
I wasn't aware of any official rules on the matter ?
Situation has arisen before It has been discussed & thought the concensus was a seller can choose who he or she prefers to sell to ( & what price) but once a deal has been agreed then of course that should never be gone back on
From a personal point i would always offer 1st choice to the 1st interested party , i have been caught short a few times with forum members than backing out but it happen's .

What i need now is a van full of M bonnets  Mm this could be your next big venture

The rules are clearly stated here.

Yep fair do's but in reality how many members would see a sale post & think " oooh i like the look of that , I'l just have a read up on the forum rules then i'l make my interest known in the correct & legal manner " :P

Anyhow for those too lazy to look here's the relevant bits & i for one wasn't aware that ALL negotiations should be made on the post :?

Negotiation

All members must be able to visit the forum to deal with their sales roughly on a work-daily basis to respond to questions/offers etc. (i.e. every day or two). You will not be expected to visit weekends and this will be taken into account if there is a delay in your responding

All discussions including offers, acceptances and refusals should be shown clearly in the thread (not by email or PM). Once a deal is agreed you may use whatever form of external communication you like to finalise payment details etc. We insist on this rule because we need to see all the negotiations to be able to mediate a solution to a dispute

You cannot make a higher offer to gazump after a deal has been agreed

I have learnt something but don't think its flexible in all cases ? Last week i contacted a member selling a certain car  unfortunately we couldn't agree a deal but not sure the in's & outs of the deal should be done in full forum view ???

Not saying the ins and outs should be discussed but the general premise of an offer should be made in the thread.

If there are no rules then it's basically a free for all.

Ignorance of the rules isn't an excuse to ignore them, try that in court.

Life is too short to worry about these things. The buyer can sell it to whoever he wants, if someone got in the first by PM then i would probably be inclined to take that person more seriously.

Gentlemen and gentleladies:

The item has been sold. It is no longer available. Yes, it can be frustrating if you (despite best intentions/speed/etiquette etc.) have failed to secure the purchase; but sadly this occasionally does happen for sought after items. There are many on here who have experienced it, but the vast majority of transactions and purchases are seamless and in the spirit of the forum. Can we please move on, as bickering is not.

Thank you

agreed, no T&C are legally signed when becoming a forum member so any rules cannot be enforced, well apart from a forum ban... which is certainly not needed here

You are correct, legally there are no contracts, but as a forum we can set our rules and those who don't want to abide by them are not welcome here. There is no "right" to buy, only forum etiquette, but at the same time there is also no "right" to be a member here and there is no "right" to sell on here.

So in the interests of the forum please will everyone follow the rules.
