SOLD - Set of 17" BMW 290 Alloy wheels, with winter tyres

This set of Alloys has been used on my last 2 Z4s for a winter wheel set.

They have very low mileage ( current z4 has done 8500 miles in 3 years) so as a set they probably have less than about 10k miles on them, good to last a good few more winters.

The alloys are style 290 BMW wheels and look pretty good for a winter set. As a set the winters and alloys retail at about 1800 quid. They are in very good condition, currently stored by BMW at their Birmingham tyre store so I may be able to get them transferred and sent to any dealer, otherwise i'm in Newcastle.

If you have not driven with winters on your Z4 they make a huge amount of difference, not just in snow, even in cold wet weather, I put them on oct/march without fail. Never had a problem even in the worst of recent winters up here in the north east.

Looking for around £500 for the set.

I think you need proper info such as pictures (even if a library photo) type of tyre, remaining tread depth and condition of rims.

Otherwise I can't imagine a £500 sale of unseen Winters with no detail, in August.

As CJ says pictures of the 4 wheels along with the make & tread depth of the tyres is a must for £500 ask
For those potentially interested style 290 is a E89 wheel but will fit E85s & E86s even better due to lower offset ( even fit the ///Ms )

Should also caution that 17's won't fit all Zed's such as post facelift 3.0
Mr Wilks - correct me if I'm wrong or it impacts other models.

17"s are fine - it's the 16"s that cause issues.

Yep that's right , I also slipped a 17inch alloy onto my ///M roady to dispel the myth they would catch the caliper , obviously depending on offset it cleared them but only 6/8mm gap between

Mr. wilks, as the resident wheel expert, I wonder if you could advise if I can use the bmw style 30 wheels on my e85 zed?
Started a thread here, and got a confirmation they would fit ok:
http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=89644

However, comments here re 16's making me think twice.
Intend to use them as my winter wheels on the zed as I previously used them with winter rubber on my old e36 coupe. Make a huuge amount of difference in the snow and ice!
Of course if I can actually use them it will be a square setup; in that case would you suggest spacers on the rears to step them out 10mm?

The style 30's can be seen on the e36 in the photo below.

The 30s will fit Chris but it won't be pretty :D 7inch rim et 46 :( should give the neighbours a giggle  they will look lost in the Z arches so if you have to use them I would say at least a 20mm even a 25mm spacer wouldn't go shy :o
I do appreciate asthetics are not paramount with winter rubber ( I am a big fan & run 18inch Hankook Icept Evos all year on our family car ) but for me 17s a minimum & I would even run the summer alloys switched to winter rubber before going to 16s :(

Ok nice one. Thanks for confirming mr wilks!
I'm really not fussed that much about their relatively meagre size at 16" to be honest. However, i'll give them a coat of black plastidip when the time comes so as to dilute the poor aesthetic somewhat.
Just way more important to have the winter tyres on should it get icy. I was a naysayer for years before i gave winter tyres a go. Chalk and cheese in the snow especially!
Nokian WR's my preferred choice.

Cheers for answering the question about the 17". I can confirm i've used them on my original 2010 E89, and my current 2 year old post face lift car.

I've had a dig around my log book and the last BMW change over report (see attached) on the winter tyres (26/4/16) had the tyre tread as 6/6/6. If/when i end up getting them shipped back up from storage i'll obviously be able to take photos, but at that point they would obviously really be collection only in Newcastle. I've only done a total mileage of 20k across 6 years in these 2 cars, most of which would be summer, so the total mileage on the winters is probably 6-8k tops. They were originally supplied by BMW but can't check the actual tyre details till they come back up north and i get my hands on them again.

Hi Chris, Yeah i just picked up my new X1 today, so haven't done anything about these wheels yet. There's no damage to the alloys of note that I can remember, and non-noted on the change over reports. I can probably get them back from BMW in a week or so, and i'll be able to do photos of them then.

I would definitely be interested in these alloys, if they are in good shape

I'm looking for pristine condition- could you arrange delivery to a dealership by me?
Near Chester

Thanks Chris

Hi I'm out of the country until 17th Sept now, I'm definitely interested in the wheels would consider driving to the Birmingham depot to pick them up if we can agree a price and they are in undamaged condition- Can you send your contact details Thanks Chris

Quick update, wheels are back in my possession in Newcastle, some example pics below

Might be taking the Z4M to Germany this autumn/winter as part of a friend's 50th party tour.

I thought these might be ideal, but they're probably quite a bit smaller than the 18 wheel & tyre combo on the Z4M.

Are they a staggered set-up (i.e. wider at the back) or a square set-up, and can you confirm the tyre sizes on there.

Otherwise I'll either have to buy some cheap wheels & winter rubber complete, or risk the drive with just a set of snow-socks.

mmm-five, I just did a quick Google and it seems style 290 wheels are square 17" 8J wheels.

One of the photos shows a 225/45 x 17 tyre, so I would expect all four to be the same.

My 325ti Sport runs staggered 17s most of the year (225 fronts, 245 rears) but my winters are a set of square 16s with 205s - I'd rather it looked a bit under-wheeled on the road than look a bit f*cked in a ditch or a field if it snows!
