SOLD: S54 M3/Z4 ARP Conn Rod Bolts

scary thing is their seems to no pattern to how their wearing, failing.... some cars are good till 100k other needs it at 40k!!

Beedub - the issue really is the fact that shell bearings on these cars (as i've found out the hard way) are not for the life of the car. These modern engines should be good for 150k miles, but BMW do not (to my knowledge) have these down as a maintenance item. There were absolutely no signs that my car was suffering this fate, other than a slight drop in MPG it was fine until it started knocking. Trust me, the amount in servicing I have spent to date, I would have simply replaced the shells at 50k intervals, or gone for coated shells.

My advice would be to anyone running over 50k miles to have them out and inspected at the very least. Its an expensive problem to have! Plus I'm now driving around in a car that I literally worry about every noise and rattle and as we all know, these S54's make a variety of odd noises when cold, warm and hot.

great great advice..... some people on this forum believe that a pampered never hard run car will not suffer this... WRONG.

frazell, Sorry for not replying sooner. Got caught up with work. Just to confirm, which kit is the one you're selling. Because the link you provided in your first post is for the M11 kit (201-6103) which is the same as the one i have lying around at home. I'd need the 201-6102 M10 kit as per ARP's own suggestion, also mentioned on Turner Motorsport's website. This one: http://arp-bolts.com/kits/ARPkit-detail.php?RecordID=1108 they list it for S50 and S52 engines but i confirmed it via email with ARP.

Regarding spun bearing shells, I changed mine prophylactically at 50K miles (lots of fast road use and multiple trackdays each year) and the originals were in perfect condition. Mine too is 2006 S54. I perform additional oil services between every scheduled service (ie Scheduled Oil; Extra Oil; Scheduled Inspection; Extra oil; Scheduled Oil; Extra Oil; Scheduled Inspection etc) but I doubt this is significant. I sympathise with your respective paranoia regarding the strange noises from our engine - I drive mine hard so I'm always waiting for an expensive disaster!
