Any history of any engine work being done ?

Thanks guys,

By engine work I assume you mean a re-build, in which case no but it was built after they revised the IMS bearing

Lovely. Just the colour and spec I’d be after  A 997 is next on the list but need to give the Z4 a couple of summers use first before I take the plunge. GLWTS but I’m sure you’ll not need it

No nothing like that and nothing to indicate it would need it

Really surprised this hasn't sold :? If i was looking for another 997 right now this stands out for me over any other around the same pricepoint . Over xmas i listed my similar 3.6 manual 997.1 Carrera4 at £19995 on Pistonheads & Ebay .
Much higher mileage at 89k but it sold within 3 days for close to the ask price & i had 2 others interested who couldn't get to view it before the first guy who bought it .
No response from the PH advert but over 1000 views in 3 days on the ebay listing & 0ver 100 "watchers" in that time so clearly a demand for such cars is out there .
Perhaps a rethink on the pics ? & worth the £20 for the ebay ad

I think its just a reflection of the crappy market we are in at the moment, nothing much is moving unless it really is a bargain.
I put a Mk1 Mexico up for sale that had nearly 10,000 views and 500 watchers on ebay, eventually sold it on a private deal via word of mouth.
I not sure sure that shows so much a demand as it does 'an interest' in these cars, half of them i'm sure were other owners trying to see if their investment was safe :D
There are a couple of other cars on the market with similar mileage/spec to yours at pretty close asking prices, one even has that magic 'S' on the back.
As these get longer in the tooth the difference in price between them and the S models decreases and they become a less attractive propostion, the same as any other brand, the highest spec models are the ones that get the attention
Most people buying these cars know all about the RMS and IMS problems that can occur, more likely in 'garage queens' rather than those that are used as a daily driver and with Gen 11 cars coming down they again are becoming more of an attractive target for buyers.
I know when i had my 987 S every noise it made had me turning the radio down for a better listen, when i had my Gen2 it was a much more relaxing drive knowing it wasnt as likely to throw a wobbly.
Having said all that, i love Porsches, my 987s was the best car i have ever owned, i kept it for 6 years and it felt special every time you got in it.
Yours looks really nice, good luck with your sale but we all know its just a poor mans Carrera GT.... :poke:

Kinger makes a good point regarding IMS issues being more likely to affect cars that spend most of their life siting in the garage on trickle charge. I've done a lot of research and there's a lot of mis-information out there with over inflated statistics that incorrectly magnify the issue. Those 997 gen ones that are daily drives and are piling on the miles virtually never suffer IMS problems, and when you get to 90k plus you're home and dry :driving:

From your research, what would be the additional risk by parking it for longer time re the IMS issue?

Rennlist has a lot to say regarding this, which seems to follow the general consensus of Porsche forums:
It seems that some of the failures might be due to cars sitting for longer periods of time than others and the bearings, in a sense, drying out. Then, of course, when they are being driven, there isn't any lubrication and the IMS bearing slowly eats itself up until it finally fails completely.

Just before folks go off a cliff re borescore & IMS making these cars worthless :( the IMS was upgraded at the factory from late 55plate / 06 cars , its easy enough to check on database with engine number if any 997 has the old or new one fitted , failures on the upgraded one are extremely rare .
Borsecore affects more 3.8 engines than 3.6 ones simply due to thinner bore liners being used , the 3.8 offers 30bhp over the same model 3.6 so hardly a massive number .
Also worth noting the tiptronics increase the chances of borescore considerably due to them pulling away in 2nd so a 3.8s tip will offer the highest chance of major failure hence why the bulk of cars for sale right now starting at £17k upwards will be tips or 3.8s , , all of the 3 buyer interested in my car specifically wanted a manual 3.6 no doubt for the exact reasons i did .
The 997 is no different to any other car , you sift out the good from bad , you buy on current condition & of course a well documented history .
The web is full of folks discussing these cars who haven't a clue what they are discussing
