Sold my last one 4 weeks ago...didn't intend to but...bought my new already!
Great story from another BMW Car Club member that I have known and corresponded with for over 35 years but we had never met in person!

Old and new one:

I am intrigued... whats different with the new one, and why did you sell the old one?
They’re just something to keep me entertained over the winter in the garage. Hence, I sold the old one because there was nothing left to do, so I get bored. 😄
The Havana Brown one was a manual 35i. This latest one is a Valencia Orange automatic 28i.
I’ve been after one in that colour for ages!
I bought it off a well-known BMW Club member who I have known for over 35 years.

Havana brown was a lovely colour, and Valencia orange is probably the best colour for the e89 with or without the black roof, congratulations

So you sold a most sought after and fun 35i manual for a non N54 engined auto?
Was it just a financial choice or did you actually not really drive the 35i like a holligan and appreciate it?

No…it wasn’t a financial choice at all. I never really drive any of them that much….let alone like a hooligan. 😅 I’m too old for that.😂
I did have a couple of serious blasts around Lincolnshire but in nearly a year of owning it, I probably only put 3-400 miles on it.

Yes, the manual 35i was a fabulous car with only 48K miles on the clock, amazing SH and I got it to virtually concours standard. But, then for me, “That’s it! Time to do something else”.

I’ve owned over 70 BMWs, over the last 43 years. Amongst them some truly lovely cars. This is just a small selection of them:

But, “you can’t keep them all”. If I were to have kept that Havana Brown one, space would preclude me doing another car…and I would just get bored.

The new owner of the Havanna Brown 35i is delighted with the car. So that’s good.

But, when you say “a most sought after manual 35i”, you’d think so. But, people are all talk until it comes to actually putting their money where their mouths are!

I actually had it up for sale for quite a long time, before it sold and had to deal with quite a lot of the usual tedious dickheads and ‘know-alls’. 🙄 I try to ignore them. They missed a really good car.

The only car that I HAVE kept, for nearly 20 years now, is my E31 840Ci Sport with only 28K miles on it:

The N20 in the 28 is a very quick car, more so with a quick remap.
It is a much lighter car with a 4 pot in, so don't presume an N54 is a lot more 'fun' just cos it has a few more horses.

Admittedly, IMO, an auto with the zf8 will make it less fun, but ETTO.

And again IMO, the VO in M-Sport guise is a millions times nicer to look at than a SE in brown! ;)

Yes, I didn’t read up too much at all on the 28i before agreeing buy (maybe I should have!). But, I was very surprised and impressed when I read up the performance figures. They’re not of such huge importance to me but 5.7s 0-60 mph is still a fast car in my book.

It’s being transported here to me tomorrow, so I’m hoping all is in order with the N20. (I hope) It ought to be as it has just a major service at a BMW Maindealer and new rocker cover gasket and two new front shocks there at the sametime. And, its serice history shows it has always been serviced over and above BMW schedules. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

Congratulations. VO is my favourite colour for an E89.

My 3.0Si Coupes had similar acceleration and they never felt slow to me, until I got my MC!

Thanks. Yes, it’s a fabulous colour….and the interior that goes with it is sublime!
At the age of 62, I have had to admit that outright ‘speed’ just isn’t my primary thing anymore. 😅
For what they were costing me, my Z4M, Alpina Roadster and even the 35i were wasted on me. 😅
