I bought this hard top new in Nov 09 from BMW dealer for my 07 Z4 3.0si Sport roadster (Carbon Black/Beige leather)
In a moment of madness in March this year I replaced car with a new Z4 sDrive23i (Sapphire Black/Black leather) - big mistake! - so hard top now surplus to requirements.
It is in mint condition complete with storage bag and all fittings. Will sell for £800.00 firm - buyer collects Somerset area (1mile M5)

NOW SOLD

All hardtops fit all years and models of Zed. There's no difference whatsoever and all UK Zeds are pre kitted to accept the hardtop

You just need to get the right colour or factor in a respray.

Anthony - interesting to hear you say the 23i is a big mistake?

Anthony, what's wrong with the 2.5???

Not sure how I should reply to this after getting off on the wrong foot with my first contribution to the Forum but with apologies to lots of happy E89 owners here goes.
There is nothing intinsically wrong with it but I just feel personally disappointed and let down by it. The 2.5 engine was a mistake for me after having previously had the 3.0si in my old Z4 but having said that I'm not sure that the new car actually knows what it is - it looks good for sure but for me lacks that edgy true sports car feel and experience of the previous car.
I also run an E92 330i 3 Series Coupe and I find the driving experience of the new Z4 is closer to this than the old Z4.
I can't help thinking that BMW lost their way this time. They obviously went after the SLK market and it shows - but for all the wrong reasons.
For me the AUTOCAR Test Result sums it up - "quality looks and cabin but lacking the intuitive responses and feedback expected of a sports roadster".

Nothing wrong with those comments - they are just honest opinions of someone who has owned and driven both models.

I guess like for like you would have needed a bigger engine in the new one to compensate, but it would still be more of a GT than a sports car.

Anthony,

I've driven the 35i DCT and would agree with your comments entirely. Lovely car but more GT than sports car. Interestingly my mate drove the 35i and said it was the same to drive as his 335i convertible but without the rear seats. He decided to order the M3 convertible rather than the 35is. Nice choice to have though :)

I've not tried the 35iDCT but from your remarks it sounds as if you were not greatly impressed. Very interesting that your friend found it similar to his 335 Convertible -rather what I feel whenever I go straight from mine to the 330 Coupe. Surely they are not built on the same chassis?
My wife hated my original Z4 but loves the new one. Enough said!!

not the same chassis as far as I know. I suspect BMW may have made a decision to move the Z4 up market and away from a 'pure' sports car towards a GT to attract more buyers and perhaps with an eye to building a cheaper Z2 which now seems to have been dropped.

Nice to hear real opinion from an owner. My thoughts after test-driving was that is was "diluted", hopefully the M division will eventually get their hands on the E89 but until then... :tumbleweed:

Hi Anthony,
Is there much work involved fitting the hard top? is there something I would need to do with the current top, other than keep it retracted? I have a 2007 2.5 in black, which I presume it would fit

No work needed... just plug and play. takes 2 min to fit. just need help from another person due to size.
If you do get one though them remember to take the boot rubber stoppers, so the boot doesn't touch the rear windscreen.

Many thanks, will have a think and let you know. Will also try and find out if mine is carbon black
Hi - Carbon Black is a BMW individual colour - it's sort of dark blue/black really. The standard Blacks are Black Sapphire Metallic (Code475) and Jet Black non-metallic (Code 668)
As Peddy said fitting is easy - just slots in but you do have to leave the soft top folded down. Not a problem, I had mine retracted for over 4 months through last winter and it came out fine. What few creases there were soon came out once it was up again. Much better than letting all that salt get at the soft top!

Hi
Not rearly suprised about the comments on the new car, as all models develop they get moer powerfull, but they gain weight far quicker.
If you think about any car generaly the original is always the best drivers car
best M3, left hand drive E30
best MX5
best 7, R300 superlight

If you try & hide weight with power you end up with a fast brick, it could be a very nice brick, but still a brick,

If you can, try & have a drivers car kept in the garage, you can work out where my vote goes

Sold to local buyer through eBay at asking price which I know was very keen but it had to go. Pity wasn't to Forum member though, absolute bargain!
