u can just go on the mileage with regard to HG though, it depends how the car has been treated over its life.

How can you tell though. The same car of the same age with half the mileage could suffer from HG failure. I'm not sure why you are hung up about it so much when the HG isn't an issue on these cars.

It's a very reasnoably priced car, remeber the seats alone will get you £700 easy, making the car £3,300 compared to many out there with non M Sport seats.

cars with half the mileage could have HG failure but its much more unlikely. you can tell by getting t a compression/leakage test done (I cant remember which one is the more accurate one).

HG might not be recognised as an issue yet because not many have done 100k plus miles.

Lots have done over 100k. I mentioned a compression test earlier in the thread.

Google head gasket and M54 engine, that will give you an idea how common an issue it is.

Thanks for the comment @woolybear!
This car has been a pleasure to drive. It's as young and as cheap as a pre-facelift comes which are rare with the features such as upgraded seats, cruise and Bluetooth that mine has. The 3.0i is the best engine you will get for a car of this age and is fine for someone not doing mega miles (as I now am with my 325d!).

I would love to sell to a forum member who will enjoy & continue to cherish this car how I have done. In no rush to sell either, the car looks great on the driveway!!

Please don't let the 'rust' point put you off, I put it on the advert for completeness. It's a minor blemish on an otherwise tidy car and would cost only few quid to put right. If you're interested I can send more pictures - thanks all for looking.

sorry mate, but you are talking out of your arse! I've had 19 E46 M54 engined cars, not one of them has had a single head gasket issue, are you thinking its fitted with a rover K-series or something ? Its like saying

'has the gearbox been checked?' it might blow up in x miles, they just dont go on M54s!!!
