solar panels

I’ve got a 4Kw (16 panel) array on a south facing roof and a 19yr old conventional gas boiler - I’m on the 22p feed in tariff and I pay £96 / month for both gas and electricity over the full year on a reasonable Tarif from EDF
I get a cash return on the PV panels of about £950 a year.

The PV Panels generate about 12/15Kw/ day in the summer months and a nominal 7Kw/ day in the winter months.

This site gave me a very accurate estimate of energy generation - if anything they were a little pesamistic.

I'm lucky to be on the original Feed In Tarrif, so make about £2kpa tax free on a 4kW array and use of the power generated, though without that, you just get the free power they generate to offset your regular supply bill while the sun is shining. - With timers etc, this saves a bit, but not a huge amount. - In the longer term, a Powerwall or other battery will harness the solar for use when it's not sunny and also allow you to take advantage of enhanced export tarrifs and time of day pricing like Octopus Agile. This set up would probably half your electricity bill, but even then, payback is 12-15 years at current prices.
