software updates?

Hi Guy's

I've got my car booked in on Friday to look at a intermittent fault when trying to open my boot and wondered while it's there whether I should ask them to check and make sure the car has all the latest software updates, or should I leave them as they are? Is there anyway I can check to see what versions are there at present?
Any advice would be appreciated.

My 59 plate has had one software upgrade that took 2 days to install!! Don't know if there are any upgrades since i'm afraid, mine was done last september/october. I don't have the nav package etc so may be different answers depending on what options you have.

Never got a straight answer although they did promise that the software wasn't designed by microsoft :)

For some reason the car just wouldn't accept it, guess my aversion to technology was rubbing off :)

They did say the updates normally are quick and trouble free. Not sure what mine did altogether but some of it was an upgrade to the bluetooth i think, more than that i can't say, i was more worried about the real reason she was in the garage and that was to do with the engine management light coming on and the car refusing to start.

Hi Guy's,
Had the car looked at on Friday and was told a new software update was needed to fix the intermittent boot opening problem, this was done but it didn't fix it, so they say. I was a bit unsure in the end that they could actually see the fault as it had been behaving itself for the last week or so. When I say behaving itself can anybody clarify one thing for me. When the boot appeared to work I had to press the BMW badge twice for the lid to open, is this normal as I'm starting to loose the plot a bit as to whether its working correctly or not.

Sometimes, software updates can take anything from 2 hours to 24 hours plus. On our Mini, the power steering module failed after 3 weeks, and a new one was installed. The software to update the new addition was started in the morning and didn't finish until the afternoon the following day, and the silly thing is the dealers can't foresee how long it's going to take. It could be an hour, it could be a day

Hi guy's,

Had a new boot lid switch fitted on Friday which appears to have fixed the intermittent fault with getting the boot open. Now, can somebody please put me out of my misery as I would swear that before the software update I could open my roof with the key-fob (Comfort access) and the windows would also come up when the roof had completed opening, now they don't. This is nothing to do with opening from inside the car, that works OK, its just when using the key-fob. Now I don't know if I just imagined it as I only did it a couple of times when I showed people the car and we were standing outside, or senile dementia is setting in :D
If somebody has a early 2010 (59) car that hasn't been in for a software update could try this for me I would appreciate.

The roof opening by the key isnt comfort access. All UK z4s should open their roof etc when holding down the unlock car button on the keyfob (provided you have the boot cover in place).

Comfort access is manifold in function; open and close top remotely, keyless start/access, and more..

Pretty sure the windows don't go back up after the roof is finished opening from the remote...

The windows stay down when roof operated remotley. Mines is an early 2010 59 plate (February)

Thanks for that  I would have put money on them going up afterwards. Talk about mid life crisis, I'm starting to worry now :D
