I would if it would ever work.

I tried giving the car a full charge, and then applying the update. It downloaded to my phone, then transferred to the car... then said it would tell me when it was ready to install. That was weeks ago.

This is probably the 3rd time ive tried to get it to install, and its still only trying to do the 07/2021.85 update. That's 3years behind sladester's one and event that's not "current".

Its an awful system that gives you zero feedback as to what its waiting for. Just tell me what to do and i'll do it, but its not fecking working following the on screen instructions.

Couple of good coughs/back slaps should bring that thesaurus right back up mate.

You’ll be surprised to hear, this one from October I posted about cancelled as never was ready to install.

Since then has redownloaded and is waiting.

It popped up once ‘ready to install’ after I had driven for 60-75 minutes but I was rushing and didn't register properly to click it so missed that chance.
Have since driven the car as a daily and done multiple over an hour commutes, nothing.

I’m grumpy about it, but not grumpy enough to go out of my way to moan to a dealer and drive it there lol

same problem with mine, have tried everything, car kept attached on trickle charger whilst sitting in the garage, took it for a 2.5 hour run today, still no change. My local dealer asked if I'd like a free car check (used car didn't come from BMW). Mentioned this when I dropped in the car and was told it would be £160 per hour to investigate  So I emailed BMW customer services with my concerns (how did I know that the updates were not safety related?) and I got a response in about 20 minutes with a procedure to restart the drive and data system etc. and if this didn't work to come back to them and they will continue with support until its fixed. I'll email them again tomorrow :D

Seems to be a bit of BMW thing with updates, I don't know if it's down to the amount of data and how good the connection is especially if done over the air. When my M140i was in for its general service the garage called me to say they would need to keep the car in over night as the latest software updates had failed twice.

Even when I recently collected my new Hyundai i20N the garage called me the morning of collection to day the map install was taking hours so had to delay collection.

Great when it all works but a pain when it doesn't, as said cars are getting too complicated.

Tim.

I caved an got BMW to do it for me. It went in for the MOT and turns out 3 of the tires were close to the limit, and also needed some alignment, so after spending the better part of a grand to fix all of that they apparently "rolled the price for the software upgrade in" to the final bill. Or more accurately they probably just reduced the massive overheads on everything else a tiny bit :D

But its now on the 2024 firmware.

Unfortunately now that I'm not on the 2020 firmware, the app has changed from saying "the alexa feature needs the newer firmware" to "this feature isnt supported on the Z4"... twats lol.

But I do now have the BMW lap timer app which is nice. Im sure there are other features / fixes but ive not dug into it yet.

I wish they would provide release notes that actually contain real information. Then again not much ever seems to change with any update.

Last week I jumped into the car and half the apps were missing, then I noticed an email from BMW saying that I had to pay an annual fee of £89.00 to get my apps back! So, BMW can get the system to work quite happily when they want to remove something and money is required, I've given up on the software update, from speaking to one BMW representative who said that they would get this fixed, to eventually another who wiped their hands of the issue and told me to take it to a dealer (which I already had and wanted £160+ an hour to investigate), why should we pay for something that is meant to be free.... going round in circles. I spoke to a M40i owner at the weekend who was having the same problems, so how many cars (not only Z4's) are affected out there, waiting for software upgrades?

Fun story. This one didn’t work either.

But my car was in the dealers for some other warranty investigation. And without boring you with that story - that’s another post waiting to be written - but in their efforts to fix a mechanical complaint they told me the entire system needed a programming update (which apparently takes overnight 🙄)

After this I am now on version 07/24!!

Anyone else?

Not sure what it does, doesn’t do or has within it as online there’s no release data later than 11/23 that I can find yet!

Congratulations, I've given up, but I did notice the following on the car the other day.20240809_145406.jpg
