Sat in the car earlier while Deb went to get some shopping and was playing with my iDrive, seeing what I could break!

Anyway, found an option in Settings to update the software.

Did this, and selected BMW TeleServices (which I assume is the cars inbuilt sim-card), and it said there were updates available for Multimedia and Telephone.

Current versions are Multimedia : MX-003.004.031 and Telephone : TX-003.004.031. Just been out to check but its not showing me the new versions at the moment.

Said it would take about 13 minutes to do.

Anyone done it? Is it reliable (or would I be better to use the USB option...download where?) and what new features in new software?

It updates the phone device driver software for new phones.. Not the idrive software itself which is a dealer only upgrade.

It's helpful if your phone isn't working as expected with the idrive.

It's available to cars only with combox. You can check this by entering your vin into the BMW vin decoder online.

Am not sure from all this, am I in luck?

I tried to update mine at the weekend but it hung on 89% for ages so I switched off and gave up.
Will try it again at some point.

You don't have the COMBOX functionality. (Control Unit COP). Therefore software drivers cannot be updated on your car. I can't do this either... not that it bothers me in the slightest as I don't have any problems using the phone I have in the car.

Can this facility be added with a software upgrade or is it a hardware thing? My phone works fine but won't stream audio. Apparently with the newer E89 it will. I looked at the usb bluetooth upgrade path but can't do it on my car.

It can be done via USB as well, I'm guessing from the connecteddrive site?

My phone works fine, but I am a version junky, so want the latest...until I find they'd introduced a bug!!

Just tried mine...also got stuck at 89%.

Can find info and download from here: https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/mobile-devices/bluetooth-interface.html

Gonna try and download to USB and update that way.

So I downloaded it from the above site. Installed fine via the USB port under the armrest. Took about 3 minutes, whereas the download option quoted 13 minutes.

So now I have:

MX-003.005.004
TX-003.005.005

However, checking over telematics offers TX-003.005.006, so obviously the website download isn't quite up to date. Tried downloading this little extra via telematics, said 9 minutes this time, but again hung on 89%, so left at the above versions.

Went into office and now see an office day thingy show email and text (only unread stuff) whereas before I only had messages. Perhaps I need to re-pair phone, although the BMW site says iphone 5 wont do text etc.
