Product tried so far:
1. body wash + fabsil gold
2. Surfex HD + gtechniq smart fabric
2. Autoglym softtop care kit
3. Renovo cleaner + ultra proofer
Result:
They are all similar if they are applied correctly.
Fabsil gold may be slightly better but someone here said that the solvent in Fabsil Gold may not be too friendly to the waterproof layer in the roof sandwich compared to other water-based impregnating agent
My thought:
Clean is the key to achieve good result.
Follow the instruction exactly. Some needs the roof to be wet when apply impregnating agent, and some need the roof to fully dry before apply impregnating agent
The bottom line here is that your roof does not rely on any of these product to stop water coming into your cabin so none of these are essential to keep your cabin dry. If you are not comfortable with putting chemical to your roof, then just leave it there. Vacuum if it's dusty or wash with hose pipe (no pressure washer). Then, if the green stuff appears, find some pro to do it for you.

My car is used infrequently, always garaged unless I'm driving, and only driven once or twice in the rain for a short time. When in the garage the top is always up; when on the road the top is down 99.9% of the time. We live in the country with no air pollution, etc.
My top is therefore not subjected to the elements the way most of yours are. When I wash my car, which is only 3-4 times a year whether it's dirty or not, I use Mother's Car Wash, but I never do anything to the top other than spraying it off with water; no soap. I do that just to remove any dust that I cannot see. I've never seen anything on the top that needs removing like bird poo, etc.
I know there are many fine products to protect tops, but there are expensive and labor intensive (I'm a 77 year old man
), and I don't see where my car needs them. But can anyone recommend a product for just washing the top? Something that won't hurt its inherent protection?

Anyway tried Scotchguard? I know it's usually used on interiors and carpets but I have a can of it and thought might be worth a go...

Spotted this review in AutoExpress this week...
Using Fabsil gold at the moment. Much easier brushing it on with a paint brush with no need for all the masking up that goes with spray on products
