Soft top will not raise

Hi again all, I managed to remove the hardtop from my 03 2.5 without any drama. I bought the car with the hardtop on so didn't test the soft top!! I now find that it won't raise!! The motor turns or makes a motor noise! I can lift the hood most of the way up and it then closes as it should. It won't go down either, once again the motor turns but nothing happens, I pull it back and then it engages and goes down the last bit.
If anyone can shed some light it would be appreciated

Hi, make sure the red handle in the boot is seated properly-that disengages the motor from the hydraulic system .
