Soft top stuck

Hello Z4 people . . .I'm having an issue with my soft top - I've cruised the forums and don't see this issue highlighted yet.

The symptoms:

1. Top is in open position fully in the well behind the seats with the front windshield clamps in the open position
2. Pressing the ‘close’ button results in a blinking red light – and no pump motor sound
3. Pressing the open button results in a solid orange light – and no pump motor sound
4. Trying to manually close the soft top results in the frame being able to be lifted approximately 12 inches, then will go no further
5. Pulling the red ring for the bypass has no effect on manual movement (pulled and pushed it a couple of dozed times.
6. Using the key in the door does nothing besides moving the windows

I am unable to get to the loom to check for breaks as the top is in the well, folded and I can't manually move it (see 5 above)

Any ideas from the experts?

Sounds very much like a wire break.
You need some friends to help. Get someone to maintain a pull on the red ring and one person either side lift the roof slowly. Every time it gets stuck hold it in that position and apply a gentle pressure. It could take a long time but eventually it will raise up.
