Posted this in the wrong forum earlier by mistake but I didn’t drive my 2005 z4 for abt 1.5 year and the roof worked perfectly fine before that but now it won’t retract. My car got detailed and they opened the top to do it but now I’m unable to. When I hold the button, the windows go down 1/4 of the way like usual and then the top detached about 1/8 of an inch and then the noise stops and nothing else occurs. I’ve checked and the micro switch gets activated when I have the shelves down (which I do rn). When I try to use the red Bowden cable to pull the roof back I encounter a ton of resistance. Any ideas of what it could be? The roof clips back in just fine with the motor and the windows go up again when I hold it.

Your roof motor will have seized through lack of use during that time. Probably 99% that its sat in water.
It will need taking out, and unseizing manually and there is a chance that it may work again, but its best relocated to the corner of the boot once its out to avoid the same issue happing in the future.
There are a few people on this forum who offer this service and can do the job in under 2 hours for you. I am one and in Bristol , Enuf-Zed (Martin) is in Norfolk, Bigwinn (Stuart) is in Lincolnshire, and Bowser, (Ross) is in Hampshire, so I'd recommend contacting whoever is nearest to you, via Private message on here
