Soft top roof removal.

Hi folks

I need to remove the roof to replace both the motor and hydraulic unit. Will relocate to boot while doing this.

All the removal guides seem to depend on the ability to manually manipulate the roof to various positions during the process. Problem is, the failure of the hydraulic unit means I can’t move the roof - and yes I have tried the red doodad in the boot to bypass the hydraulic valves. Is it possible to remove the roof without being able to move it more than about 6”?

Second problem - I don’t have access to my garage at the moment to store the roofless car! However, I do have a hardtop. Do the hardtop mounting points remain in the car when the soft top is removed?

Are you in the uk?
Many people have become proficient at relocating the motor without touching the roof. In fact I did one only last weekend.
If you have someone nearby who can do this for you it'll save an awful lot of messing about.
There's a pretty good chance the motor and pump can be got working again as well.

It so happens I am in the UK - Bolton, near Manchester.

I’d still rather get the roof off if it’s possible though. I’d like to get the roof drain compartments fully cleaned out and I also have a few other things to do that would be much much easier without the roof in place.

Is it possible to remove it, without being able to manipulate the roof? Can the hardtop be used with the soft top removed?

Ah well, in that case I'm afraid I have no experience of moving the roof itself, or fitting a hard top. Hopefully someone else can advise you?
 
No. The hard top can’t really be used without the soft top as removing the soft top, will also remove the locator holes that the hard top pins drop into.

You could plonk it on loosely to keep the rain out but it wouldn’t be secure enough to drive with it on.

I guess it’s a relocation and repair needed as first priority then!

Anyone near Bolton/Manchester who can help with that?
 
The roof is down!

I found one (no doubt of many) guides in how to extract the pump and motor with the roof up. The Bowden cable to the pressure relief valve was seized, as was the valve, as was the motor. Anyway, down now and hardtop on while I resolve things.

I do have another problem which is either a non working roof module, a non working gm5 or something “squashing” the k-line - but I can find and fix that.

However, the central button neither unlatches the roof at the screen - not a problem for my trust 5mm hex key - nor latches the rear latch to hold the deck in place when it’s down.

TL;DR Is there any way to manually latch/unlatch the rear latch without the central locking working?? I don’t think it’s a big problem, as I have the hardtop on - I’d just really like to know if it can be done.
