Soft top preservation

Continuing with my research in to the Z before I buy it. Having never owned a soft top before I was wondering if you guys could give me tips on washing it, how regularly this is needed and the best way to preserve or protect the roof?

Loads of topics on this subject if you use the 'search' function. Biggest debate is to waterproof or not to waterproof the soft top after cleaning. :?

I've used the Autoglym hood cleaner and protector.

What do you do when the sun comes out and it's 8C but the road you're on is irresistable? Lob it over the nearest hedgerow for collection at a later date?

The hardtop hoist makes life a lot easier - but yes, there has been the odd wet winter day where I've left the house only for the sun to come out and I have the hardtop on - But I wouldn't go without the hardtop during the cold and damp winter months, probably why my Z's roof is nearly 10 years old and it looks like new

The Autoglym pack of cleaner and protector is superb. My roof is a nice glossy black and water beads off it.

Phil-E30 - I've gone the Autoglym route as well, based on a lot of positive comments on this forum.

As you can see from the sig; I have E89 and MINI cooperS cabrio. To be faIr, the MINI is lovely even in winter. I just love the sound of the rain on the roof. So would I get a hardtop. Naa. As the man said thats what the E89 is for.

I love this too - sitting in the car with the engine off when it is pouring. My wife thinks I am weird, however it would appear I am not

No need...thats what the E89 is for

Yeah but the E89 doesn't look as good as the E85-E86

It's just like being snuggled up in a tent all nice,safe and dry until the tent starts leaking!
