Soft top frost..

Wish there was some other way to protect the roof through the winter. Don't have the money to buy a hardtop for it. Will frost damage the material? I treated the roof with some Autglym roof stuff a couple of months ago. Hope it will be ok.

Nope. It will be fine. Just don't put it down when it is still frozen, that might not be very good for it.

well I have a cover for the windscreen.. didn't really want be putting a whole car cover over every night etc. I always think covering the car on the street will make thieves even more interested.. :D Can you get covers for just the roof and windscreen?

Something like this?

It's light enough that it doesn't scratch paintwork etc.

What about a Coupe?! Problem solved!

It'll be fine don't worry. These roofs are made for bad weather...

I must admit that I considered buying one last winter but when I told wife she remarked that's a lot of money for what it is and I don't see the point. Take yesterday morning for example there was frost on the car so we used our Series 1 instead. Hardly ever use the Z4 first thing and when the sun is out any frost usually disappears by 10am. I've given the roof a good dose of Autoglym so I reckon it should stand up to a bit of frost without the need to cover it with some plastic that could freeze to the car.

I had same concerns and worries about the amount of rain and the rusting motor problem as my Zed sits on my drive.
So I bought a half cover - cost about £50. It has been very easy to put on and take off - fits into a plastic zip up bag and stays in the boot when not needed. During the recent snow it was a help in avoiding build up of snow and ice on roof and windows. I put it on the car quite often as it takes seconds - if there is a concern that it might rain I pop out and attach it (it has expanding pockets for the wing mirrors which make it clear which way on it goes and elastic straps which attach under the rear and front.

For me it was a good buy and it gives me some ease of mind when the weather is poor - as it seems to be quite a lot recently! for the half cover  for the rain and snow

paulgs1000, yea i'm going to try source one out for sure, £100 from bmw is a bit expensive. 40/50 would be fine tho i guess. Anything to help keep the snow/ice and wet weather off my nice roof is a must. I realize these roofs are designed to withstand the weather. But it can't be doing any favors by letting frost build up and defrost over and over..
