Soft Top - Engine Off

Hi all,

Newbie question: Is the roof on a 2003 e85 supposed to come down with the engine off / no contact?

It would make sense not too, but just wanted to be sure.

Also, is there a way to connect Carly to an ELM 327 adapter?

Regarding the roof: if you put the key in the door lock and turn it to unlock, then hold it there, the roof should come down.
Conversely, if you lock the car with the key and hold it there, the roof will come up.
I know this because wifey has an annoying habit of coming home, putting the roof up, locking the car and walking away. Many hours later I notice that yet again she has not waited for the windows to come back up, so I stick the key in the lock, hold it in the lock position and the windows finish coming up.
However, this procedure cannot be good for the battery if you do it a lot.

OP, you might know this already, but.... Not 100% sure about 2003s, but pressing and holding the open button on the key opens the roof and with some coding the lock button closes it.

I never managed this on my 2003 even after looking at coding, I think this is why people went with after-market modules. There have been a lot of threads over the years about some of these modules going rogue causing battery drain and other electrical glitches, so worth checking out before committing.

My Z4 is May'03 build and last year I had the roof/window open and close coded to the key. Handy, but tbh I only really use it when walking back to the car on a hot day to save getting into an inferno....so not very often ! The rest of the time I open/close the roof with the engine running
