Soft Top Drain Plug Missing

It looks like I have the drivers side Soft Top Drain Cover Missing, probably after too enthusiastic prodding with extended special tool (coat hanger mk 1) it did clear the water but must have pushed the rubber plug out.

Are they available to buy or is it best to leave it out? what's the consensus of forum opinion?

I haven't noticed increased road noise to tell the truth.

is it a bad idea to lower the hood after a rain shower with the hood still wet?
is that where the soft top drains get the water from?

I've removed mine too, although got some to put back in over winter when the hardtop goes on (thanks again Number5)

Cory, Durham Dave's son kindly removed mine and handed them to me with the sage advice:
"It's probably betta te leave them oot Chris"
So I have.

Took mine off when I checked my drains . . . kept them though.

If you're worried about dropping a wet roof then keep a microfiber cloth in the boot and use it to dry the roof off - surprisingly effective and doesn't take long. Basically though I'd say it was best to let the roof dry before dropping it - for the reasons you mention and to stop the roof material festering.

A poll Marlon? :poke:

Drop the bung or not?

That's like offering a beer to a recovering alcoholic  You know I'm trying to control my Polling obsession :(

You lot
I'm also running with open holes although my motor now resides in the boot

No problem but I wouldn't leave it down too long - it needs to dry out properly
The roof is in 3 layers - the outer layer (that a lot of us spent time water-proofing :) ) is actually meant to be porous. The water proof membrane is in the middle and directs the water down to the drains. The 3rd layer is the roof lining inside the car.
The water rolls off the roof and then down inside the body work where the bungs (and the roof motor  ) are.
You can check if the bungs are clear by carefully pouring water down this gap and looking under the car to make sure it is coming out

I binned the bungs, and I wouldn't leave a wet roof down - that's asking for mould to form!

It was only down for half an hour while driving in the autumn sun this afternoon then put up again. :driving:

Zero issues there :)

I found with the plugs out there was more road noise - drainage channels acting like a trumpet, I expect. My motor has been relocated but was pristine (replaced about 2 - 3 years ago) so I'll just keep mine in and continue checking the channels are clear.

For the roof, I never put it down wet - mould and drying marks being the main reasons.

I have a spare one if you want it I think, drop me a pm

You have lots of spare parts since we re-assembled your car

Well while you guys were working on my car, I went around the other cars acquiring spare parts

Was a bargaining chip, just on the off chance the lunch created lethargy in replacing bits :D

Aero skirts seemed a little too obvious!
