Hi all, im looking to restore the colour of my soft top once ive got rid of the algae. its not too faded nor is there loads of algae. ive used the autoglym cleaner and protector (which is pants) and I know if you want to restore then the top has to be clear of any previous protector on it. Ive read that renovo reviver is a good product so if anyone has used this let me know. I was thinking of going down the Milton tablet route to clear the algae

Dry day then: vacuum cleaner and stiff brush. Milton in water and scrub roof with stiff brush. Hot soapy water and scrub roof. Rinse with clean water. May need doing a couple of times (in spring) if your car stands out over winter near / under trees. The E85 roof is designed to have a porous outer layer and I remain convinced that BMW would have designed it to be chemically sealed/proofed if that was the best option - so I'm reluctant to chemically proof mine with an aftermarket kit.

Hi, The Milton tablet is great for killing off the algae.
I was similar steps to crazy harry.....vacuum the roof, milton clean/scrub, wash it, rinse and then i used Grangers Fabsil as a protector.
For me this was really good over the Autoglym stuff. It beads every time and runs off. i apply it with some in a pot and paint it on as you can get right into the bits above the window....if its dry then part put the roof down and get in where it folds.. Wait till you see the gunk in that bit so maybe give that a clean at the start.

My roof came up looking like new and will be doing it again in the next few weeks for added winter protection as i don't have a garage.

Get yourself one of these as they're great for the fabric roof cleaning...

Vikan 644052 Hard Nail Brush, 120 mm Length, 45 mm Width, 40 mm Height https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004JVTF0M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_obT0DbF6KX0HR

I've used the Autoglym kit on the current car and the previous Z4. Never had a problem with it.

Wet the roof
Spray a section with the cleaner
Get into it with the brush.
Do this for the whole roof and rinse.
Repeat until there's no more dirt coming out then use the waterproofing stuff.

so I got a stiff nylon scrubbing brush, wet and used the autoglym cleaner with the brush then rinsed. then rinsed again and again! finally used the last of my autoglym protector and it seems much better but I do agree with the guy who mentioned that the roof probably doesn't need protecting. the sponge that comes with the autoglym set is rubbish so definitely need a good stiff brush
