Soft top automatically drops

Hi

Wonder if any one can help. My soft top on the Z4 drops automatically everytime I unlock the car or open the boot. This problem has only just developed but happens everytime I open the car. It will then allow me to raise the roof but won't stay up if I then leave the car and lock it. The only way to keep it closed is if I then drive for a short period followed by locking it. This is not so much of an issue whilst the weather is fine however can cause problems if it is a paticularly bad weather day.

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so can you let me know what you did to resolve it?

Thanks

Sounds like there is an aftermarket roof module fitted which is maybe failing or has a loose connection :idunno:

I have not had this problem, but it sounds possible that the fault could be in the key. The reason I say this is because if you are standing next to the car and you hold down the button on the key that is marked with an arrow, it activates the "convenience open" feature and the windows roll down and the top opens. (I just found this out last night when I decided to read my owners manual just for the fun of it.) If there were a short or fault in the key, it might result in these symptoms.

Here are a couple things you could try in order to pursue this possibility:

Try your other key (assuming you have one).
Try opening the boot and door the "old-fashioned" way, in other words, turning the key in the lock (not pressing any buttons).

When you do these experiments, do you get the same behavior or something different?

and about time too, a convertible that won't allow you to drive it when it's dry with the roof up...
Take note Mazda MX5's and Mercedes SLK's....

Just a point, but if you want to disable the roof, do the trunk space expander thing in the boot, as then the roof will not operate.

Its the two handles either side, it enables more luggage to be put in.

Hi all-sorry to thread jack but is it possible to dissable the power roof but do it by hand to save the battery power?

you can't disable it but in event of failure you can raise and lower manually.

But I have to ask why you want to do this.

only if the engine isn't running, do it to many times then and you may struggle to start the car.
