Soft roof fails to close

Hi,

I have a 2007 Z4 and my soft top roof struggles to close. It opens fine within seconds, so it's just on closing that I get the issue. The motor sounds but needs a helping hand to get it moving to close. I don't know if this is related but I'm now getting lights on my dashboard appear for a few days before disappearing again.

I've read about problems with the motor and drainage well but then I read that this was more likely to occur in older models, besides my motor has no issues with opening the roof completely (windows drop on opening).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

Could be a weak battery? Do you have the engine running whilst closing? There's a thread here currently about how silly it is to rev the engine whilst closing, but with a weak battery, it may be required to generate enough power. Give that a try. If it helps, it's the battery. If not could be a failing alternator or roof motor, or something else.

Good news is that revving helped big time, so it could well be just the battery. Will get it checked out.
