Soft close boot failure

Hi , last night i experienced a failure with my boot mechanism on my 61 plate z4 e89 highline , the boot closed until the point that the soft close should take over .. it didn't. After many attempts at opening /closing the boot , locking and unlocking it would not fire up leaving me to drive home with the warning light and audible noise. A week previous or so my interior boot light failed and despite a build change refuses to work ? could this be related? I have had one warning of a low battery since returning from holiday but after a long drive this went. The main dealer is quoting a whole new mechanism at £319 ex vat ... any ideas welcome please

I have just had the same problem with my z4. Took a while for the dealer to locate the problem, they did a few adjustment which worked for a few weeks then went again. After looking at it again they found a broken wire and a new control module was needed. Luckily I have the extended warranty so only cost me £100. Its been fixed now and is working normally again. I wonder if there is a weak point somewhere which breaks the wire. I had the same problem with the interior light not working either, but since the repair its all working good again.

Hi , thanks for the reply , my issues started with the boot interior light failing , I tried a new bulb but didn't solve it . The main dealer fitted an entire new boot latch motor mechanism which worked for last night for one open & close . Tonight it's exactly the same , faulty but with the interior light working . Do you know which wiring they changed on yours ? Many thanks , cars back at dealer tomorrow

Unfortunately I don't have any paperwork as it was fixed under warranty. All I know is it showed up under a diagnostic and they said was a control module needed replacing due to a broken wire. Let me know how you get on. If they can't locate it I can phone my dealer for a report on what they did as it sounds like the same problem.

Brilliant , I've heard back and the latch mechanism has failed that was fitted a day ago. One actuator on one side. Boot light still working , new parts on route if that's still the cause .

It's a worry when the dealer fits new parts that fail after a day
