sof top hall sensor

hello I have a problem with the soft top of my z4 e85 after changing the limit switch (opening) sensor the soft top does not work anymore you lower the windows you hear the relay click but the soft top does not move the switch in the trunk and ok. I tried to put the sensor back (changed only because it did not stop the motor at the end of the stroke) but it no longer works even with that .... from the diagnosis it marks me short to the ground .... any idea? thank you

You probably have a broken or shorted wire in the harness. Pretty common as these cars age.

strange that it happened after the sensor was changed, yet the welded joints were done well ... maybe it's just a case and as you say a wire broke somewhere the diagnosis marks this for me ....

hello I did some tests.
1) the directly powered convertible top motor works open and close.
2) with the hood attached and pressing the opening, nothing happens
3) with the hood near the windscreen and pressing the closure the windows are lowered and the engine (in front) engages the hood (but the red light flashes.
4) with the hood half open, you hear the relay but nothing happens.
I know that all I have left is BMW assistance ... :tumbleweed:

Use your multimeter to check the wires for continuity to ground.

Find yourself another length of wire that you can attach to one end of the wire and run it back to the other end and check continuity between each. Alligator clips work well for this.
That will tell you if you have a broken wire… not always because it might be in the position that it is touching. It could still show continuity ( if it’s a power wire) and not work depending on the load.

Use that extra length of wire to jumper out the wires in the circuit, one at a time. Process of elimination

hello thanks I try to test the wiring, strange that it happened after replacing the hall sensor ... but the fact that the fuse is blown looks more like a short circuit ...

tested softop wiring the wires have continuity .... I don't know whether to remove the sheath and check them .... but I believe more and more that it depends on the hall sensor maybe after the replacement it must be recognized by the sof top module, even if I don't understand why the fuse has blown and the diagnosis indicates a short !!

removed the brackets of the softop wire tested one by one the wires by bending the wiring ... always continuity the wires seem ok .

after having tested all the wires and connections, I only had the softop module left, I then detached it from the wiring for a few minutes, to photograph the ticket, after having reassembled it I tried and the softop started working !!!! at the moment it works, rediagnosed no short circuit error ....
