SoCalz's - December 1st - 2nd Annual Desert Run

Aebous,

We are going to determine a few different meeting spots next week. I'm thinking one spot for San Diego area drivers, one for those coming from the Inland Empire/LA area/OC, and one for local drivers (Palm Springs area and eastward).

Does that sound right IMZ4N?

If you guys are ever bored and wondering about top speeds, El Mirage Dry Lake bed is near my house. My brother in law will let us borrow his laser radar gun too! We've tested a few things out there...mostly off road vehicles. We got my sons quad up to 85mph! They do a lot of high speed testing there and the surface is smooth as glass. Do have to drive a short distance (maybe 1/8 mile) on a dirt road though. I'm going to go out there and get some pictures one of these days...

That would be awsome if you coukd bring a radar gun. :!: :driving:

So we drive out there then go race? Just when I almost talked myself out of it. Ah, any twisties on the way or is it all open highway?
I meantioned it too my friend (who lives in desert hot springs) and he told me the roads around there are clogged with traffic.

An no that's the main reason I was talking myself out of it.

Traffic? No traffic! :tumbleweed:

There will be a drive with twisties, and then there will be a drive to a place with a wide open surface with very little traffic.

We might encounter some traffic between the two locations, but traffic in the desert is nothing like traffic in LA or Vegas. Traffic here means you slow down to 35 and stop for red lights. I really don't think it will be an issue. Last year I did pick the wrong way to the last drive location, but now that I live out here I know the better routes to take.

Besides, it's a reason to get together with other Z4 drivers, all of whom are pretty nice people. We'l have fun no matter whether we hit some slowing on the roads or not.

I'll see what I can do. Don't know if he'll let me take it by myself or not. When we've used it before he brought it and kept it in his posession. I don't think he'll mind...I'll see...

Cool cool, I might have a problem getting out there an back. It's four hours from here so I might have to bend/break some rules to go. I think right at three hours is supposed our max distance from base. I'd normally just take leave but i'm in a training class. I'll probably just go anyways
*edit* Of course I could always just drive back doing 120+ that outta shave some time

All righty. Just got off a conference call and Dew's Z4 and her older man ( Happy Birthday ROB ). We plan to meet at our final destination at about 2:00-3:00. That leaves us some time for a drive before the event ( need to have some twisties before all the straight line driving ). I would like to get a feel of those that would like to stay over on that night. There are several places to stay the night and we maybe able to get better rates if we book together. There is a chance that within 15 miles of our final destination that we maybe can get rooms at a discount. Dew'sZ4 will get an update on what that is.

So who would like to stay the night and have some breakfast on Sunday?

Thinking of using one ramp as a slalom course, and one for the drags.

We need to bring some blenders for the making of Margaretta's ( for those staying overnight).

Updates and times and meet locations will be posted in October.

Do not miss this one or you will be sorry.

Count the wife and I for overnight and breakfeast ....

Question - what the best way to increase the car's speed above the limit we hit last year? Scotty, can you give me more power? I suppose putting in the highest octane gas would be one, correct tire pressure, and we found having the top up was good for that extra 10 MPH, and maybe a clean zaino waxing, but anything else? I'd like to break 150.

I'll be there Bob and Chuck but not sure about the overnighter yet. Wow...150 :? ...this may be pushing my "feminine" and shifting capability limits  However, I am down with the highest octane, tire pressure and several coats of my Zaino!! (see pic below...hehe)
