Soaking Carpet - Coupe

Evening chaps,

Came back from an enjoyable blast in the zed in this lovely wet weather we're having, and was trying to fish out my charger from the floor behind the passenger seat... There is a seam where two sections of carpet meet, and it was bloody soaking. I pulled the seat forward for a better look and the lining of the underside of the carpet is properly soaked and holding a lot of water.!

Any ideas on where the water may be coming from? I want to get it sorted pronto!!

Exactly where I have noticed its wet on my fairly recent purchase. I am going to remove the seat to investigate further but I think it can only be one of two sources.
1 leak around membrane in door card
2. blocked drain hole around roof motor mechanism.

Most owners seem to find its the first thing.
Post up what you find.
 
Thanks for the heads-up - I think the door membrane was disturbed during some recent work I had done on the car - I haven't noticed any water marks on the sill though... :/

Mike, your issue could be something different as it seems you have the roadster... I don't have a roof mechanism!! :P
 
Morning all, just to add - a few months ago I removed the plastic jacking block (previous owner had damaged it slightly and I wanted to replace it. The replacement was wrong, and I forgot to refit the old one again - is the hole where the jacking block is supposed to fit a leak point to the interior by any chance?

Took my car out for a rare winter trip this morning and noticed that someone in the past seems to have made a poor job removing the interior door pull. This is probably from a previous job where the membrane has been disturbed or perhaps an attempt to repair the membrane but didnt then dry out the carpets. A nice spring job in the offing but is it difficult to remove the door card as an airbag is fixed here.

went out this morning and noticed the face of the door seal where it mates against the door was wet, and the metal face of the door where the seal meets it was also wet with a few drips above it... so that would point to the door seal then..?

also now you mention it, I jet washed the car for the first time last weekend (bird pooped on it when I was out in Winchester with the missus) - I sprayed the seal at the bottom of the window on the door pretty vigorously as there was a tiny bit of green moss(?) starting to grow - maybe that's where all the water has come from :(
 
Bollocks! Thanks for the diagnosis - I'll have to get a load of silicone anti-moisture packs and chuck them under the carpet to dry it out, and get the membrane sorted as soon as poss.

I'll update this thread once TWG Automotive had (most likely) confirmed your diagnosis - just in case any other silly sod does the same thing as me
