So Where Did You Find Yours

I have been searching for a cherished and realistically priced Z4 for the past 6 weeks.
My eureka moment was the thought that the good Samaritan members of this forum would surely be willing to share some of their secrets
to finding the object of their own and others desires.
All insights and guidance welcomed 15K budget.
Go on share those moments of sweaty hand exhilaration! :D

Bmw AUC mate

i was looking every day for months till i found the right priced one ( there AUC prices seem to vary between 13k and 17k for a black coupe with less than 40k which is what i was looking for)

it turned up in newcastle and i live in bolton, 5 hour megabus trip later and i was collecting it

Did the usual of trawling the internet to give us some idea what our budget may realistcally get us then we walked in to a Sytners dealership and asked them what they had in our price range. Turned out they had access to a lot more cars than their website would have you believe.

The usual online searching for a while, PH, Autotrader and eBay , viewed 3 then bought the 4th via PH from Kent :driving:

Autotrader. Saw a terrible example in Glasgow, neglected, full aero kit, but a bucket.

Next car I saw was well looked after with great spec. Deal done :)

Autotrader... But had a chap I know who buys and sells cars for a living (and used to run the Lexus dealership in Tunbridge Wells) look around for the spec I wanted... He came back to the one I had found. Went to th trader, had a drive, paid a deposit subject to some small things being sorted out.

In hindsight though I should've joined this forum earlier and perhaps I would have pushed harder for a few more things to be fixed, mainly with the sills and front bumper, the windscreen and some upholstery marks. It was my perfect spec though, so I was happy anyway

First one. Dealer, no Idea on what I was buying, just knew it was a 2-seater convertible-1st year model.

Second one. Autotrader. I knew what to look for and got a good deal, 4yr old with 17K miles. :driving:

That's 2 of us from Bolton then!

Looked for a few weeks ... Went to see three cars ... 2 of them were hard to walk away from but I was glad I did because a better specked and better condition car became available ... I viewed the day the advert went up.... Oh and I bought on a rainy day .. Made negotiations easier ... :D

Searched for 4 months daily on
Autotrader
Ebay
Pistonheads
Here
BMW Auc
Anywhere else you can think of

Eventually found my spec on an AUC car in Luton.

Autotrader. Search for a week or two. Came across 2 x ///Ms both 2007, both only 15k miles both only £15k. One dealer was happy to negotiate, the other wasn't. Regrettably the one who wasn't had the colour I preferred so ended up paying the higher price. Not regretted it though. Gotta be right otherwise the itch will return quicker than normal!

Bought my 3.0 from Citreon main dealer in Fareham after looking at several private sales. Only reason they were selling it and not trading on was because it had only 29k miles despite being an 03 reg. Got 2 new rear tyres ,new MOT and some bumper scuffs done prior to picking up but on closer inspection the bumper cosmetic work was not done particularly well and I found several small dints. As I live on the IOW it was a real pain to take it back so I took it to my local paint shop who I trust and they redid the bumper perfectly and got the dent man to take out all the dints - total cost of everything to get it up to my standard £280. My only advice is to buy as locally as you can so you can sort out any niggles.

I was looking for a Porsche Cayman S, and after driving one decided pretty quickly it wasn't for me. The second car on my list was a 2007-on M3, but the prices are still a little high. I popped into my local main dealer who have a dedicated ///M department to see if they had a decent pre-'07 M3, and the roadster was sitting there. The sales manager urged me to take a test drive, I was not in the least bit interested.. I took the drive anyway, came back with the biggest cheeser. Looked around for a fortnight for another. Saw some really rough examples, mis-matched tyres, odd service intervals, rough body and interior etc.. Went back, paid 1k over book price for mine, but got a total minter with a 2 year BMW warranty, 1 years tax, and the benefit of buying from a ///M specialist. (Also drove in my "search" the new SLK, Boxster S, new Z4 2.2, but the M roadster just tickled me fizz) :D
