So some of you may have seen that I recently purchased a 2003 Z4 2.5 for the grand sum of £300!
Quick back story is the previous owner ran it though a flood early one morning a couple of years back and he said it hasn’t ran since. I’d enquired about purchasing the car last year, as a project for myself and father who sadly passed away shortly after offering the guy £1200 for the car. Fast forward 12 months and the guy contacted me asking if I was still interested. Hell yeah! Mainly to honor my late father idea of cruising around in the sun with my mother!
I managed to purchase the car for £300 thinking the engine was knackered!
A recharged battery and the engine started first flick of the key!
The cars now on my drive and the fun begins.
So far-
Washed the car to remove two years of gunk! The roof was green!
I’ve unseized the drivers door, replaced the drivers window regulator(£50) this then enabled me to check the operation of the roof. Which with a helping hand seems to work.
Sound deadened the inner door (nice thud instead of tin sound!)
Replaced the EPS motor. No power steering when driven onto drive! This also enabled the sports button to work.
Replaced all the rear brakes (shoes,disc,pads)
Cleaned up the rear subframe and suspension arms and scholtzed black.
Duetted new rear shocks (£56 each)
Replaced the corroded springs with 3.0 msport springs rear.
Replaced the battery
Cleaned up all the rear brake pipes
Blown up the carver amp a free replacing the 30amp fuse! To then see the smoke coming from the battery area with the radio on! Not happy!
Replaced the roof storage latch with one from a donated roof
Adjusted the handbrake
Compression tested the engine, down slightly on cylinder 1-6 compared to the rest (138 psi ams 175psi highest) I’m hoping that once the cars running and serviced this might be ok. If not new engine time!!
Replaced the spark plugs
Next on the ever increasing list
Replace the front suspension (o/sbroken spring, shocks badly corroded, parts £100)
Replace the front callipers/disc (parts £20)
Remove the under tray and try to figure out where the oil leaks coming from.
Drop the oil/filter, coolant
Change the brake fluid
Remove the slick rear tyres and strip the BBS 108 split rims for refurbishment,
Maybe drain the fuel as it’s 2 years old!
Then hopefully take it to MOT!
If the test is ok then it can go in for the bodywork sorting!!!
So all in all so far I’m just under £1000 in (including service items) and maybe another £500-750 to go with the tyres and bodywork!
