So. What upgrades?

Hi all.
So got my 3.0L E85 Z4 on Sunday. Great spec. Seems to be fully loaded. Love driving it.
But, What upgrades / modifications do you recommend to improve performance, ride, looks etc.
Feel free to add pics or your ride as well as suggestions.
Cheers.

If it’s got runflats then change them to standard tyres. It’s makes the car so much better.

I'd ditch the runflats if fitted straight away as above then it's a case of how much money have you got! The obvious/easy ones are zhp gear knob, cruise, m sport seats and steering wheel or royals refurb of your wheel if you don't already have these. Beyond that there is refurb the suspension (if it's still on original shocks) as it will be knackered. Then there's exhaust mods, headlight mods, bigger front brakes and on and on the list is truly endless!

The best modifications I have done to mine are new shocks and eibach springs, spacers on the rear wheels, strut brace and cruise control, which I use every day.

The sport steering wheel is lovely to hold as its very thick, but it was on the car when I bought it, so I don't know how the standard wheel feels.

Aside from cosmetic things, I would check whether it's had rocker cover and oil filter housing gaskets replaced in its lifetime, as these are known weak points. Same goes for the expansion tank and thermostat. Once those are replaced, it should last forever

First of all, welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting a black one - you made the right choice!

When you say fully loaded, how fully loaded do you mean? There’s a load of retrofits and upgrades possible for these cars...

In terms of modifications, I’ve gone with:
E46 coilovers
poly-bushes at the front end
Adjustable camber arms at the rear
Ultraracing bar front and rear
Porsche Boxster front callipers and z4m/e46 m3 csl rotors

Other stuff I’ve added, some of which you may have:
Cruise control
Passenger airbag deactivator
Piano black interior trim (dashboard & center console)
Alcantara steering wheel and a few other pieces of alcantara trim

I’m in the process of retrofitting power folding mirrors

I’ve also done a stereo upgrade (I had the 6 speaker system) with a sub in the rear but kept the one head unit

Don’t forget to do the roof motor relocation to the boot if it’s not already been done, and a stubby aerial - the Peugeot aerial seems to be the common ‘go-to’ for a stubby for just £6 off eBay

I have a thread in the “new members” section (greetings from Bangkok) with more details as some of my updates have occurred, and here’s what mine looks like...

When I bought the car I promised my girlfriend I wasn’t going to modify anything, but you can see what happened :D

Anyway, hopefully this thread and others can inspire you to modify the car to make it your own

Good luck, and enjoy it

Luckily my car came with cruise control and also the factory fitted subwoofers. As well as the sat nav and 6 cd multichanger. Even has cup holders and heated seats. Now they are a nice touch....
Run flats were dumped by the previous owner and rear shocks replaced 24,000 miles ago and fronts replaced 12,000 miles ago.
It has a K&N filter so has a nice induction noise.
And yes, of all the ones i looked at, black is, in my opinion, the best colour.

sounds well sorted mechanically
if you want to spend lots of money though
how about detango-ing the front end with some facelift/aftermarket lights, looking at z4 msport seats or e46 msport/m3 seats and getting some aftermarket wheels before your 108s wither away in front of your eyes :P

If ur putting low mileage on it. Keep it standard and look after it and keep it serviced. If ur guna use and enjoy it ZHP gear knob lose the 108 alloys for style 32 18’s lower on eibachs or look at the relevant Bilstein kit for urs which is eibach and prop shock absorbers. I’d say m sport seats but are expensive. If urs aren’t electric and heated recaro cs sportsters fit and look great. Like others have said if it’s got an m sport steering wheel an alcantara retrimmed by royal steering wheels feels great with the ZHP gear knob.
Drain holes upkeep and moving roof motor to the boot is advised. But most importantly drive and enjoy it when you can. Hope u do. Enjoy the zed ownership!
All the best

Thanks all for the advice and ideas. Plenty to think on. Its my daily driver so will be putting at least 15,000 miles a year on her.
She will be well looked after thats for sure.

Mine has been my daily for the last 4 years, got a E81 about 6 weeks ago to use for the commute to work so now the Z is currently SORN for the 1st time!
