So.....what to do next

Hey guys,

So, i picked up my z4 a couple of weekends ago......

i'm not sure what to do next with it.
Cleaned the DSI - it was clogged with black gunk. So was the intake. Should clean this too.
It needs an inspection 2 in a 1k miles so i'm going to get that done.
for some bizarre reason, 3 sides have brand new runflats, and the other has a brand new falken. Not sure what to do....take the hit and buy falkens for the rest and just ebay the runflats or just replace the falken? The car is quite twitchy at the moment and not sure what to do.
Its needs a proper clean, in and out.....so going to book this in for a full detail.
Oh and the satnav screens motor is a bit screwed - doesnt want to open up properly.

Anything else i should look to do?

oh and, the previous guy replaced one of the xenon bulbs for a "bluer" one, i want to get the older one changed. though he said that it cost 300 to have it reprogrammed? is that true?

You definitely need to sort the tyre situation out. Mixing runflats with non-runflats front to rear is bad enough but on the same axle is positively dangerous. The previous owner must have got a puncture and knowing it was being sold, decided to skimp on costs.

SatNav screen will require a new screen, it will be the stepper motor that's playing up but I don't know of anybody who has managed to find just a replacement motor.

hey.....
thanks for the advice! Definitely going to invest in new tyres......

Can probably sell off the runflats on ebay.....

As for the screen, i found a seller in germany that has 10 flip monitors for sale. brand new, €140 which is a bargain considering BMW was close to £300 for them. only snag is that they wont post outside of germany. Trying to get it delivered to a friend out there and get him to post it back.

are you sure the xenon bulbs have been swapped? thought that was something you couldnt do with xenons?

+1 on the tyre situation, i would get that sorted a-sap.

looks like it.

I checked last night.....the left one is bluer than the right.

maybe he bought the bulb thinking it was a direct replacement, then found it costs 300 to have it programmed.

IIRC Aliv6 on this forum has replaced his OEM xenon bulbs with bulbs with more of a blue tint to them (higher "k" number), so think it can be done. I'd certainly think you'd want matching bulbs in both sides though. Have a search on the forum, no mention of reprogramming as far as I remember...

Echo what the others say about the tyres: sell the runflats and buying 3 other matching Falkens would be most cost-effective and best for ride quality and handling anyway.

hmmm..........will look around the forum for posts on xenons.

it looks a bit naff with two different shades.

Will look around for tyres.....hopefully they are not too much.

How long is a piece of string?

Seriously though, total personal preference. I, like a few others on the forum, like the Falken FK452s: good balance of performance vs price. Plenty of other suggestions though.

i had goodyear f1's on my impreza. they were perfect for that car.....i guess each car is different, so i though i'd ask the question.

Hi majeric, if your having any problems with the screen from Germany you can have it posted to me and I will forward it on to you, just drop me a PM. No problem.

It's very cheap and easy to organise a courier to pick the stuff up. I do it all the time from all over the place - invariably cheaper than shops etc. quote. I use Interparcel (I think that's what they're called). Enter a few details and they give loads of quotes for different options.

Finally got myself a brand new set of boots.

Falkens 452s all around. Not a bad price - £420 fully fitted.

Next - going to service the car.

I'll post pics of the car tomorrow.
