So what do you call an E89 35is that has no 35is features any longer?

We are all aware of BMW's evolution of model naming over time.. 20i, 22i, 25i, 30i

Used to be directly related to actual engine displacement then move more to represent 'relative' power in BHP.. 18i 20i, 23i, 28i, 30i, 35i etc

Latterly we have the G29 with 20i, 30i, M40i

So..the BMW Z4 sdrive 35is..

What is the most appropriate naming convention..if you were BMW..to describe this?

It was a 35is but everything that made its a 35is rather than a 35i has gone..

No 35is floor mats
No 35is instrument cluster
No 35is ecu map
No 35is exhaust system
No 35is front stakes on the MSport bumper
No 35is emblems

No 35i/35is adaptive dampers
No 35i/35is front / rear brakes

So what does it have from / similar to M cars

E90 M3 upper/lower control arms
M2/M4 alloy wheels
M2/M4 front discs
M5/M8 front calipers (well Mustang version of them)
M5 rear calipers
LSD like M cars
Ohlins dampers equivalent to uprated M dampers
Reworked engine 550bhp vs 335bhp

Thoughts and please..don't get to serious!-:)

I'm a lifetime hater of upbadging, but in this particular instance, you could get away with some form of 'M' in the name. Your car would thrash the previous-generation M, and if they did make an E89 M car, it would likely thrash that as well! You'll just need to design a slightly wider and more exaggerated bodykit... 🤔

Nothing is really springing to mind for the model name, without just straight up referring to it as a Z4M.

You could simply use a basic symbol to prefix the 35is badge, which one depends on your perspective; ≠ , ≥ or ≤ .

Erm,… based on this, I’d have thought the badging should be left well alone 🤷🏻‍♂️

Or maybe the Z5 M ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ edition

Most expensive 2 seater vert known to exist that used to be known as a BMW z4 35is?

Just make up your own model designation - your car has had so much done to it, sureley it's just a car that was based on a 35is at this stage.

Being humerous (as I don't enjoy the same tastes in colour) - how about BMW Custard Tart?

Or ditch the BMW moniker - go with something SCM z4?

Or pick the manufacturer that provided the largest spend % of your build, name it XXXX z4 (insert name)

I was very taken with an E36 or 46 that sported a 340i or 344i designation as it had a V8 in it.

However BMW don't slavishly follow engine size, so I'd go for 50is.

Z4-B21-M550i-M2-M3-M4-M8-LSD-M-Competition

That would look brilliant along the boot lid.
