So much for buying Genuine BMW

Okay, not the biggest issue in the grand scheme of things, but when you pay a premium for Genuine BMW accessories from a dealer, you expect there to have been some quality checks?

As some might know, my car does a lot of miles in all weathers, so I tend to use the town & country/mud & snow rubber mats in my car to save the original champagne ones (they're stashed away...somewhere).

These rubber ones cost about £60 and I'd replace them every 2-3 years (50-60,000 miles) as the heel pad wore out.

Unfortunately these are no longer available, and I was offered the 'hard wearing' velour mats instead...at the same £60.

So, two months ago I bought a pair of these velour ones from a dealer, and fitted them.

This morning I came to hoover the mats and noticed the driver's side was a bit cockeyed, and on moving it found the velcro has come off the underside of the mats, and so wasn't holding it in place at all.

Now, I could simply glue these back in place, but feel like I shouldn't have to after 2 months and about 1,000 miles!

It should have been stitched on but failing that they should have used the heavy duty Velcro,

VELCRO® Brand Industrial Strength Velcro Heavy-Duty Stick On Self Adhesive Velcro Tape 5CM Wide
* Patented Industrial Strength Hook and Loop tape is 50 percent stronger than standard hook-and-loop tape.
* For best results please leave the Bond/ Glue to set for 24 Hours before using.

I've got some of the heavy duty stuff here, but don't see why I should fix something that's not fit for purpose, and let BMW get away with ripping owners off by supply sub-par accessories.

I've sent them an email, and will see what their response is by the end of the week.

Might have to see what other options are out there, but I'm not looking forward to that as it took 3 attempts to get decent mats for the Alfa (first set was the wrong shape despite being custom cut, but had the fixing; the second set didn't have the fixings, but were the correct shape; 3rd set were from a 3rd provider and fitted correctly).

The trouble is if you take them back and they exchange them then the new ones will probably be the same poorly made items. My original '03 carpet mats did the same recently and I 'glued' the Velcro patches back with black silicone RTV...sorted!

Well for that sort of money I can't say I blame you, good luck getting it all sorted
But personally I am with Mr Miyagi :)

Dont think it pays to buy supposed quality items like car mats. Buy cheap and replace regularly would probably leave you better of in the long term.

I’d just expected they’d last as long as the rubber mats (I.e. 2-3 years) at which time I’d expect to replace them...just as my wiper blades are replaced annual no matter the make.

That's really disappointing OP.

Mine has had the same mats in for the 2 and a half years I've owned it (OEM I think) and they're still fine.

As someone said maybe just buy cheap ones and expect to change them - I got a set that way for my E46 and they were fine for over 2 years. Always assuming you can get a refund of course - because another set from BMW is probably going to do exactly the same. :headbang:

Good luck getting it sorted.
