So long Z4 hello M135i

It would never occur to me on the day I buy a new car to fart about washing it etc !
First thought, get out and drive, then read the instructions after the enjoyable day out

I echo this and its not something I would do either but I have the upmost respect for others that have the passion and commitment to go that extra mile and make their own cars mint, whenever I visit shows and browse around the concourse stuff they always look far better than they would when they left the factory which in reality seems crazy as they should already be mint in the first place to me!

Love my autos and I'm a card holding (bus pass) relic!
I try really hard to love mine too but I just end up trying to justify it or making excuses for it so that's why I know its not for me but appreciate that some people cant be bothered with constantly pushing a clutch down and in traffic it is a god send to have an auto but as soon as I am not in traffic I wish I had a manual so you just cant win!

On the Autobahn at 90 (ish) I probably wouldn't think of changing down to accelerate hard but the auto drops a couple and off it goes!
I think the problem with me is I have always enjoyed cog swapping and I enjoy getting the best from an engine so to drop it down a couple of cogs with a manual is something I have always done anyway but I do agree it is nice to not have to think about it with the auto as it just gets on with it and spins it around to the redline and gets a shift on.

I'm with you Lee. I've driven E92 M3 and 35i with DCT and I am positive they shave a few tenths off your acceleration time but I didn't enjoy them as much as a traditional manual. I don't think I'd ever specify it on a car if it was an option to do so.

To be honest, I kind of get Tim's desire to do this (assuming he had a wee drive beforehand) - if you're into keeping your car looking good it's part of making it yours, irrespective of whether it's brand new, or just new to you. I drove mine back from PVR's and it tipped down with rain, the interior hadn't had it's quarterly clean - - and it didn't feel properly mine until I'd cleaned it for the first time.

Thanks guys, interesting to your hear thoughts on the Manual and Auto.

When I did the test drive it was the auto and it was very very good and was tempted, for the M135i it shaves a little off the 0-62 time down from 5.1 for the manual to 4.9, I think Chris Harris achieved 4.6 for the auto and indicated it was the one to go for. Only thing I would say on the Auto its faster than you can manually change, great for that tenth of a second but for me personally its starting to smack of almost playstation feel which isn't what I would want to feel in any motor with decentish performance :)

lol I'm the other way round, get the car how I want it then enjoy it. Unfortunately when I collected on Friday the indoor handover bay was booked up so had to be done outside in the rain :( so wanted to give it good going over once home just make sure its 100%. Problem is I'm too much of a perfectionist :|

That makes sense!

I don't know if Bmw dealerships do it but when we collected my wife's Audi some time ago, it was handed over in a booth with some very critical lighting! A complete contrast to the outside in the rain.

Normally they will do the handover in the showroom or booth, the Zed was in a booth, just unfortunate they were busy when I collected on FRiday. Luckily all is well bodywork wise.

The engine in this thing is so addictive :)

The showroom is ok but I do prefer the light that seems to shine critically along the car!
Its just sad that they cannot stay like that forever.

Was there a reason you didn't want to wait 2 months and get it on a 64 plate or was this deal related?

Sorry Stark I missed your question.

The M135i was on special dealer offer until end of June, 3K from them and 2k from BMW so 5K off list so had to order before the offer ended. I guess I could have waited until the end of June but deliveries are quite fast on the M135i at the moment 5 weeks or so even then would have got it beginning of August. I didn't fancy it hanging around the dealer for another month :) just for the new reg.

£5k saved so just put a nice private plate on it!
I assume you can put a private plate on a car that technically I suppose you don't own until the final payment??

Private reg's don't do it for me, rather buy some nice bits for the car :)

I guess the only advantage of a private plate is to hide the cars age, I imagine why most people have one but I don't see the point if you change cars every 2 years :|

Nooo the mud flaps return. Hehehe. To be fair, they will keep the skirts looking brand new. Lovely car Tim, big change. These things are such sleepers!!! Unless people know about them, they wouldn't have a clue just how quick they are. Is it loud when you fire it up?

Cheers Tom, yep I love the non shouty look of these, just as quick as Porsche without the look at me tag, I have a fast car

Sounds great on start up, quite loud for 20 seconds or so but tones down to bassy burble but its the smoothness of the engine I like, complete opposite to the Zeds.
