Lovely car, and such a great colour combo too, just can't understand why you wouldn't have had the auto.

Because some of us still enjoy a more interactive style of driving.

I love my clutch :)

I so want a clutch pedal back I feel lost driving without one...unless my left leg drops off I wont be going anywhere near an auto or a twin clutch gearbox in the future as they just ruin the whole driving experience for me.

Having seen mate get used to his E46 M3 SMG, I think he feels the same. Great for fun, but lacks a little involvement from the driver

Quoted for the future in case you have a weak moment again :D

So, so glad i went for the manual as well as the auto boxes in sports cars really seem to be aimed at commuters or the older chaps that are trying to recapture their youths with it :oldman:

When I wrote it I did wonder if I had made a mistake as the Nissan GTR is one of my favourite cars and that sadly only has two pedals! I have just come back from a decent blast down some empty back lanes in my 330 and I did enjoy myself a little but I just know if it was a manual it would have transformed the experience so much because no matter what you do you are never in control with an auto or twin clutch set up.

I am pleased you stayed strong and loyal to the three pedal set up with the Porsche  :driving:

With me experiencing an auto and twin clutch with paddles a manual just blows them both away for driver involvement for me personally and the two pedal set up is quicker but that doesn't always mean better though but as with anything its each to their own but no matter how hard I try to appreciate the two pedal set up I just cant seem to like it.

Lee anyone that has driven the DCT gearbox for more than a day or two will tell you your interacted with the car. I love mine. Can't see me going back to manual, anytime soon. Few of my mates had doubts about the autos too. Changed there minds after a wee shot. I drove the M235 in manual & auto. Only one choise worth making ! Auto all the time IMO.
Sorry tim for changing the subject  your cars lovely & hope you enjoy mate :D

Lovely Tim, congratulations

I am currently lusting after an M235i...

Thanks Bing, I prefer the looks of the M235i but needed the practicality of the hatch, slightly better balanced looks with the 2 Series.

Tim.

I'm with Lee, how can an auto box have as much involvement as a manual? by it's very definition an automatic removes driver interaction. Great gearboxes no doubt and undoubtedly quicker too, but not for me. For a driving experience you can't beat 3 pedals IMO.

That said I'd take an M135i auto for the daily commute any day of the week....keep the manuals for fun driving though

A very nice looking car.
I think if they did an X drive (auto) in this form I would ditch her A4 Quattro in!

It will always be down to personal preference and neither camp really wins as you go with what best suits you the most and I have tried all options including the DCT in a M3 and my other half has a twin clutch in hers with paddles but the three pedal set up continues to pull at my heart strings and it rewards me the most and I accept I am an out of date relic but for me in this case the past is better than the future.

Love my autos and I'm a card holding (bus pass) relic!
I try really hard to love mine too but I just end up trying to justify it or making excuses for it so that's why I know its not for me but appreciate that some people cant be bothered with constantly pushing a clutch down and in traffic it is a god send to have an auto but as soon as I am not in traffic I wish I had a manual so you just cant win!

Tim.
Tim the attention to detail you show never fails to impress me  it looks the business :D

It would never occur to me on the day I buy a new car to fart about washing it etc !
First thought, get out and drive, then read the instructions after the enjoyable day out

On the Autobahn at 90 (ish) I probably wouldn't think of changing down to accelerate hard but the auto drops a couple and off it goes!
