So it’s goodbye to the G29 (allegedly)

But a LCI in 2023..the final swan song?

So BMW aren't getting the sales volume they wanted - maybe because people can't get the cars even if they do place an order! :headbang:

Guessing about what a car company might do in 3 years time. :o How unlike the motoring press. :tumbleweed:

I believe G29’s production plan is to stop production in 2025 so it’s not like BMW cut the model earlier than originally planned. It’s just that BMW will not renew the z4 product line to its 4th generation, which is already widely known. I think it will be big news if someone claims that BMW confirms 4th gen z4 is in the pipeline and will be fully electric.

Came across this article from a Spanish site. BMW according to article has no comment. I had to translate from Spanish so you may have to do that. https://www.motor.es/noticias/bmw-z4-roadster-claves-cese-produccion-2025-202284975.html

Yes but that's not down to BMW to be fair MrTidy...covid and the chip issue is playing havoc with all manufacturers.

^^^^ This.

Maybe they will, keep the next gen Boxy and Cayman honest.

You were beaten to it here:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=134021

Haven't seen any G29's on the roads for a long time, owners who can afford must be all working from home.
I said since i first saw one be lucky to reach anything like E89 sales, they weren't great.
Nothing about the G29 is memorable. No feature i could draw from memory.

This date has been posted on Bimmerpost for ages along with and LCI of 11/2022.
BMW are not ending the model early (well not by much) if you look at previous model lifespan.
E85 was 6 years 10 months, E89 was 7 years 5 months and G29 will be 6 years 8 Months. There was also a 2.5 year gap in production between E89 and G29 with only a couple of months between E85 and E89 models.

I'm hoping to change mine at the end of the year so I get whatever the LCI brings in updates or changes. Only problem is that the end of production follows a bit too soon afterwards to change up again after that.

Yeah now you mention it neither have I, you dont need to be wealthy to own one, you can pick up a 3yr lease for around £460 a month....

I'm pretty sure this was first reported a year or two ago? 2025 would be the typical end of 6/7 year product cycle anyway, so surely the G29 was always destined to end then?

Yep this is correct, it will be the end of its product cycle. Sadly though BMW are not going to replace it with another thanks to all those idiots buying pointless SUVs (in most cases).

Unfortunately no one wants these cars at the moment. A shame, if nothing else, that the variety of cars seen on the roads is gradually diminishing. Not looking forward to a world where 99.9% of cars are dull SUVs in resale grey, or EV white. Don't get me started on new build houses... I fully expect "imagination" to be removed from the dictionary before long.

Seems to be happening across the board, Mercedes discontinued the SLK/SLC and Audi were rumoured to be discontinuing the TT, but from I've read it's had a stay of execution. Anyway, with the rise of EV's you wouldn't get very far... draining the battery with opening and closing the roof, I can see any future convertibles having old fashion manual pram roofs

Take Google Translate, it's much easier. :D

The end is nigh…

However, perhaps BMW may decide to produce an electric Z5 though…

:?

The prospect of convertibles being discontinued has been touted for a while now and it's always made me wonder why they don't do as well as they used to? What is it about people nowadays that makes top down driving less appealing? Is it less disposable income? There are certainly enough warm countries in the world for it not to be the weather? I loved my Z4, then my S5 convertible... I have a kid-wagon at the moment, but when he grows up I'd love to own another convertible.... but why have the massed abandoned them?

Too much other choice I think coupled with the over zealous safety paranoia around these days, there is also definitely an SUV willy waving contest happening, along with the amount of gear for little people you take around now. 4 doors are so much easier too, the days of cramming two kiddies into the back of a triumph spitfire with a bag of spare pants and a t shirt are long gone. Money is going to SUV's in a big way. Imho obvs.
