Hey all,

I just found out I can open the roof by holding the unlock button! Yay. I thought this was comfort access only, or you had to buy a smart top module?

I have 2 questions really,

How can I close the roof from the fob?

Any other cool tricks I should be aware of?

Thanks guys!

Yeah, it took me 6 months to find that out - good for posing :D
You can't close it with the fob for 'safety' reasons, but you can have the fob coded to do it.
No doubt someone will be along with more details.

You can put key in door an hold in lock position at it should close roof
To lock from remote , get a smart top,
If you press unlock twice, then open drivers door the window should drop to allow easier access indoor can't be opened fully, close door window should go back up

Here another thread with more info. seems that a 'gaptech module' will give you extra functionality:

gaptech is e85 only, I wish they made one for the e89, the smarttop does the same thing but costs three times as much :)

Is this a feature for all z4s?

All standard E89s can lower the roof using the key fob. You obviously need to ensure the boot tray is locked, and when pressing the button you need to make sure you don't let go as this will halt the process. It takes a while to start, to the point where I kept giving in when I first got mine as I assumed it wasn't working.

I thought that was disabled by bmw due to safety concerns?

I'm not sure if it's a safety reason or a make money through extras reason, but cars with comfort access gain the ability to close the roof through the key fob as well.

Obviously non-standard cars that have a smart top or some other addition may have opening/closing from the fob enabled or even disabled.

I have no smart top and opening from the fob is a feature I really like. When leaving work I can unlock and lower the roof whilst walking across the car park... when I get there the roof is down, stowed away and ready to go.

As for other fancy features, OP, I like the Google maps send to car feature. Find your destination on maps and send it straight to your iDrive sat Nav. Start car, open message, start navigation.

Pop key in ignition and start.
Stop.
Remove key, press start and it starts up no key.

Then leave the key at home. Drive somewhere, turn off engine and you're screwed. :?

Very handy in the winter as you can start the car and then lock it back up again and go back inside to drink your coffee.

Obviously keeping a weary eye on the car at all times.
