So I finally got round to painting my calipers :)

Yeah I agree but I like the fact that they really stand out. Had LOADS of people comment on them. Even a neighbour came around today just to tell me how good they look and how he's thinking of doing it on his Audi A4 cab.

Honestly, I've also been thinking about doing mine this summer as well after seeing these pics. I have the red interior as well and think it ties together so well. I also think that a splash of color would be nice as a white car with clear lights could use something to break it up. 8)

Your's is white? That will look awesome 8)

If it wasn't for the red interior I wouldn't have gone for the red to be honest.

Looking good :D I think silver looks more OEM or black on black.

If I did mine it would be silver, I'm not a fan of the standard OEM calipers and holders so dont want to draw attention to them.

Topshelf - I love the red on white look, but each to their own

IMHO if you add a splash of colour then it brings out a little 'performance' in the look. It's not without good reason that most manufacturers of performance cars offer their calipers in red or yellow. For sure a £2,000 big £££ Brembo conversion could look even better, but we are talking of changing rust and dust colour, for a £5 tin of paint

I get constantly asked about the look of the wheels, calipers and discs since doing them.

(Forgive the shots - messing about with light and locations and in the 2nd the new rotors were not yet fully cleaned up from the black coating as supplied)

I so need to go red.

Agreed! While they're not giant Brembo BBK's, CJ's pics just reinforce how good the stockers actually look. I'm definitely setting a weekend aside this Spring for red calipers.

I'm painting mine red this weekend, i have the paint already i bought it the other day.

Any tips/info? Don't want to make a mess of it... :|

Yeah I think they look good and it needs to be done. What paint have you bought Lucy?

This one - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_175090_langId_-1_categoryId_165495

You chose well on the paint. I've done 14 calipers so far out of one tin of the stuff and it really lasts.

I suggest remove the calipers and carriers as it's the best way to clean them properly and get a good finish without it going all over the pads, rotors , etc. Just don't hang the caliper on it's hose.

I suggest 2 or 3 coats at 15 minute intervals as it dries real quick. Don't worry about the first coat as any last residue and roughness paints in.

It'll take you a good half day and a lot of graft to do.

Thanks Lucy and CJ10. Hmmm... this might be a job for sunday. What did you use to clean yours off?

Rotary wire brush on a battery power drill (plus face mask as it's toxic dust)
Pretty dirty job with brake dust and scale off the calipers.

Wiped down with brake cleaner, but that's not so important with brush on paint.

Hey, Not being a frequent visitor to the site I always feel i always put my 2 pennies worth in a bit late but here goes...

I've painted the callipers on all my cars in the past and call me agricultural but I've always used good old plain and simple Hammerite, and it seriously lasts.
I've know other people who've bought the branded calliper paint and it doesn't last any time at all, so they can be a little hit and miss.
BEST thing about hammerite is you don't have to worry so much about surface preparation. I give the callipers a quick blow down with the airline, quick wire brush on main surfaces and slap the paint on. I do use brush on as opposed to spray on, as spray paints by nature are thinner and so will give a less durable finish unless of course you build up lots of layers.. but I've not got the time for that.
Although, I've always shied away from red and always gone for Hammerite smooth silver finish with calliper details emphasized in another colour. You can see on the pics below in the z4's case I did the springs in light blue. They look as good as the day I painted them and that was 10 months and 12k miles ago.
My old car I repainted after 3years and a good 40k miles, they probably would have cleaned up well but was easier to repaint

Get red and I'll do mine as well, borrowing your paint of course :D

done mine silver last weekend looks great and such an easy job. where did u get those dust caps TOM14S?

They came on a set of wheels i bought second hand a few years ago however...
can be found here:

or

you could get the real deal and get stainless stems (maybe these i found aren't the best suited to a z4 but you get the idea):

Personally the chrome plating on these cheepo ebay things is only microns thick so only lasts a few years but the sleeves are easy and cheep enough to replace if they start to look a little naff.
