So how much should a window regulator cost?

Window regulator went last week, so I arranged to get it done by my local indie with a quote of 'around' £180 which I was fine with.

Well today the OH drops the car off to be told that it's a little more expensive.... £260!!

That's 50% more!

Well I've called and told them to stop because that's a joke, £120+ was labour.

So I'm either doing it myself or getting another quote.

On that note, where can I get a drivers side window regulator and how much will it cost me?

I've changed a regulator before so not too worried about it but didn't want to do it in the cold haha.

Oh... will one from any other models fit? I've found a 3-series one.

Any idea of the part number?

Cheers

I got a new regulator set, cable and widing drum from ebay at about £70. Easy to fit once you know what your doing.

The difficult bit is setting the window to fit flush against the seals and roof. No joke, it took hours, even with the instructions from BMW. The little adjusters on the sliders dont always give enough movement to accomdate slightly poorly made cables!

Another point worth noting is that the kits come with a new winding drum, but if you have an 03 like maine (I dont know about others) the drum is encased in a rived together holder than needs to be drilled out and then diled flat, bolted etc. A bit of a faff!

Mine went again last week and I think Ill stump the cash and get it fixed by the garage this time!

I actually saw your post on here when I first searched and thought an extra £30 'southerner tax' was reasonable but I think this guy has just realised how much christmas is going to be!

Do you mind telling me where you went? It might be worth calling them just for the part I guess!
