So how much is that service history worth?

I'm sure BMW used to read my keys in the little key reader on the service desk. Am I confused....?

Depends on the model - Older Zeds with EWS 3/4 key systems only store the mileage and VIN. Later ones store more info.

Mike

I’m pretty sure that when I took my zed in for a service, the guy told me how many litres of fuel I had left in the tank after reading the key :o

Correct, this list stolen from PH..
Ambient temp
Fuel level in tank
Kilometers on car
average kms per week
key number(s)
model type (ie N54/N55/N52)
services due
vehicle color code
interior color code
in service date
build date
coolant temp when last used
brake fluid date/when its due to be change

You used to be able to also buy dealer stamps for defunct franchises...such as David Holmes Stockport (which is now Williams Stockport).

Some of the dealerships still exist, some don't, so it's not always simple to verify what you're seeing in the service book.

My book hardly ever gets stamped, but I don't think it's going to make much difference at my mileage :P

Stupid BMW - still doesn't have electronic servicing history.

C63 didn't have a book - you ring Merc and any branch can print/email you the full history they hold.

Do they charge for that?

Can't believe BMW don't hold a "central database" Surely it's in their own interests, as it can tie people into the dealer network servicing?

Mike

BMW do hold within their database information on any car that has been serviced at a BMW main dealer garage.

In order to get this information, you have to call up BMW customer services. (If you call up your local branch they will only be able to provide you with any servicing done on a particular car at that branch.)

+1
Its all stored on the key anyway and they can read it and print it out at the dealers

In addition to that newer cars do have the merc style electronic service book.

These things have been knocking about for years but that said they've usually been sold from overseas into the UK.
Bit of a give away though, that many stamps all at the same dealer, you don't really see that too often

Ditto, after the 100k phobia point is there really any point. With my own scribbles and receipts you can guarantee my FSH is genuine

Yep got stacks of them as well. When I sold my RS they printed the full work history out for me about eight years worth - have been very happy with them over the years. Even let me buy parts air con pipe was a big saver £365 Ford dealer network - £65 gen ford in Ford package via internet

Yep that will be the good old service book with matching invoices from ebay Then! :poke: 🤣

Seriously though unless they're a one owner from new car it's unusual. At 3 or 4 owners it's suspicious as hell

A combination of being too tight to change them and to be honest not finding anything else we liked. Don't really want to think about how much we've spent but we've never been stuck at the side of the road and the dealership often say don't bother getting that done yet it will do another couple of thousand miles.

Electronic log books are listed as options on some of the better cars now.
