A bit late to the party but...

Did you wash the car on Sunday then there was a frost on Monday morning? Because you described exactly what happens when a window is frozen in the door-seal.

Yes but I would have thought that as you exited the car after this so your window should have dropped when exiting and after closing the door went to its normal position.

But the one & only car wash I go to is run by a friend who uses only Auto Glym products and he makes sure his employees' standard of work is decent.

That said, as you know, I do quite a lot of miles quite fast and, no matter how immaculately the car's washed, the stone chips will still appear.
