My Si has lived up to all my expecatations and more. I cant fault it. Sure there are always going to be faster cars out there but thats not the point. I'm sure the M is also a great car, but for me the Si provides everything I want in a Sports Coupe.

Wished mine did sixty in half a second! :P

The M needs to be a good sub 5 seconds to sixty and no more than 10 to 100 car to justify the extra cost imo.
The differences are just too subtle, both in looks and performance. It needs bulging wings, 19" wheels standard for example, and something like the M3 V8 414bhp engine in it. Then that would make me stand up and take note :D
 
Even today 'sporting' cars that hit 60 in under 6 seconds are quite rare. Most of the hottest hatches don't go there.

3.0si is a quick car by any measure. If you want better performance from the new Z4 you'll pay £45k for the privilege. There's always a faster car out there but really the 3.0si is a great compromise between sporty performance and handling, luxury, and economy.
 
I'd prefer to DIY something a bit special, rather than an M or Alpina. Just the painful resale issues.

TS2 ESS + 3.0i for the win :lol:

I looked into this last year and had this Email from a local UK company. I did mention which car it was for:

Yes we are the UK agents for ESS supercharger products.

The costs for the TS kits are as follows -

The TS1 kit costs £3250 plus vat and fitting takes approx 8 hours.

The TS2 kit costs £4250 plus vat and fitting typically takes 12-14 hours.

We simply charge our normal workshop rate for fitting the conversions and we charge £50 per hour plus vat so this should give you an idea of total cost.

I wouldn't know as I wouldn't be fitting it! :P

Probably won't bother now as the Z4 is quick enough. I just missed the supercharger whine of my JCW MINI for a while when I bought the Z4! :P
 
The project car is. The quote though was for the 3.0si. They used to have a pic on the website.
They will basically fit an ESS supercharger to any car. They do custom installs. :wink:

= throw money away.

Spend what on the kit and doing it = need to do brakes too = more cost, plus when you sell = prob get back 10% of the cost of doing it all = pointless.

If you want a faster car, buy a faster car.
 
It's not just about 'having a faster car' though

It's also the fact that it's different and hardly anyone else will have it done. It's extremely unlikely that you will bump into anyone else with the same thing, if likely at all.

For some who would fit it themselves, it's the enjoyment of fitting it (loads of my friends are into messing around with engines and love doing it)

For some it will be an acheivement and may get into a magazine or something.

And it's also the pleasure to be had out of it.

Oh and the sexual noise of the charger ;)


It may seem like a waste of money to some, but to someone who is going to really enjoy it and get the most out of it, it's not. Most of my friends who have these 'project cars' plan on keeping them until they are no longer road worthy or dead, so selling up is not usually thought about. Although someone wanting the car who knows what's under the bonnet will pay the price...
A friend of mine sold his Vauxhall Nova (call him a chav if you wish but he's actually far from it and the car was fantastic) for 8 grand last year. It was running some extreme power for what car it is (somewghere between 350 and 400 if i remember rightly), and did over 170mph. He's currently in the process of getting his 400+ bhp Vauxhall Corsa on the road and is trying to get it quicker than the Nova that did 11/12 second quarter miles, so kind of a competition with himself haha. He does it for the acheivement and pleasure of building and driving. He competes in competitions like Ten Of The Best and has been in magazines. To him, standard cars are boring. He uses his Mitsubishi Evo daily and saves/saved the Corsa/Nova for best so he says :lol: Anyway i'll shut up about Chris now, was just an example :)

If you have the money to do it then why not.
 
Doesn't hurt to be different,we are all car enthusiasts afterall.
Can't beat a bit of fiddling around...under the bonnet..
 
I spent about 15- 20 k on mods on my skyline and sold it for 15k. Thats not the point. It was my imput my work and having an original car that was instantly recogniable. Its a rush to have 600+ horses at your feet know that you did heaps of the work. Flames gushing out the exhaust , people constantly got there cams out. Monstering lambos ect. Puts a bigger grin on your head than sex....and no having to be nice to her before you get your jollies!!!! lol....its like great sex...without foreplay!!! lol
 
I agree with the last 3 posts! :thumbsup:

I fitted the OEM carbon rear diffuser to my car. Was it to improve handling? Will it increase re-sale? No, it's because I liked it and I think it's an improvement on stock!! :P
