Snatchy steering

Hey

I've read all the steering posts but my issue seems different ??

When driving straight ahead on good surface the steering wheel sort or pulsates,it's like someone was tugging the ends of the rack either side,if you apply slight left or right pressure to the wheel it pulses harder,it's a non pump (ps) system so can't be pump pulsing .only other thing I've thought of is track rod ends or bushes but it just sailed thought our Nct test and they are strict ??

Has anyone else seen this and what's the reason.....

Do you have run flat tyres still on? They can cause 'tram lining' which feels a bit like someone is pulling the steering wheel out of your hands - just a thought :)

I had run flats which caused heavy tram lining especially if the road wasn't totally smooth. Just changed wheels and tyres and it's like driving a different car.

If not tramlining could you be describing wheel/tyres(s) out of balance? When you say pulsing is it a vibration through the wheel that gets worse with more speed?

I just got the car a few months ago and it had 17"s with normal Tyres, changed to brand new staggered 19"s a few weeks ago with non run flats as well and same issue both sets of rims.
It's not a vibration but like someone tugging the wheel from your hand both directions, really disconcerting while over 80mph, car handles great dispite of this but always in the back of my mind the cars going to launch me into the ditch...

Strangling tho as I said above if your on a long slow curving bend the pulsing/feedback worsens as you turn into the bend....very weird

Sounds very similar with mine on runflats without any lowering, issue behaves itself on perfect smooth ground, keep us posted if you find out anything
