Snap-in adapters

I was browsing Amazon and I stumbled across some cheap snap in adapters for my old iPhone / blackberry so I thought it would be nice to have a phone left in the car at all times.

After researching it would seem that these phones are too big for the standard carrier and an upgrade is needed.

Is there a list anywhere of what phones do fit in the standard carrier?

Anyone used a snap in with the standard carrier?

Suppose I could get the one for my old iPhone and modify the existing housing.

I bought the carrier and the snap-in adapter for my 4s, but then realised the new carrier needs to be wired into a socket socket below the CD changer, which means stripping out the car to do so.

I ended up getting the dealer to do it as I didn't want to break/mark anything with my ham-fisted attempts.
