Smoother Gear changes?

Has anyone used this manual gearbox additive to try and make their gear changes smoother?

OR is the CDV removal the best first step to try?

Thanks for the advice!

100% CDV delete before any ‘additive’ IMO. A shorter weighted knob helps too - with the gear changes

The only thing I’d be putting in the box is decent transmission fluid.

It has apparently had new gearbox oil, but with many negative examples/past experience, you never know what other people/garages might have replaced/fitted to a car, so its worth doing oneself!

At the moment I have an e89 2.3sdrive. The gearchange is as smooth as silk which makes the car a real pleasure to drive.

As the man said

+1 for cdv before anything else. Significant difference to being able to 'finesse' gear changes

Bin the CDV.

Screw any kind of additive. Change the box oil. 50% Redline ATF, 50% Redline D4.

The same people who gave us the Zed are giving us some mighty fine lubrication enhancers.
Example from Germany is Liquid Moly (20002) Cera Tec Friction Modifier.

IME BMW manual gearboxes shift quality seems to very variable.

My current Z4 is better than it's predecessor, but got even better after I had the fluid changed and the CDV deleted then fitted a ZHP gear-knob.

But I can't say which of those had the most effect because they were all done the same day.

Definitely get the CDV out - if have any doubts you can always keep it!

I got notice my ZHP shift knob is in the mail. A CDV delete is on my to do list. I had considered an oil change in the gear box as something to do later... when I do, I would definitely put a friction modifier in.
